Goddarel, American explorer, and his two French companions, are the only men in recorded history to accomplish a trip down the 4200 miles of the raging Nile River. 'Kayaks Down The Nile' To Repeat At Y Fieldhouse Mar. 1 1 Internationally famous John M. Goddard, young Mormon explorer, will appear in Provo at the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young Fieldhouse, March 11, at 8 p.m. in a repeat performance with his thrilling adventure film, Kayaks Down the Nile. The full-length, natural color folm, which was shown to over 6,000 persons in January, is being brought back by popular demand. A Provo citizen's committee in charge of the presentation said proceeds will be used to send the BYU high school band to a special educator's conference in Tucson, Arizona. Tickets for the event are being sold at the Joseph Smith Building Ticket office on the University campus, at BY High Sschool and at Heindselman's Music Company in Provo. Mr. Goddard, who with two French companions, completed the first recorded trip conquering the Nile River, tells his story from the stage as the film is being shown. Told by experts of the region that their anticipated trip down the world's longest river, the 4200 mile Nile, was impossible, Mr. Goddard and his companions ignored ig-nored the warning and faced undaunted un-daunted the 31 cataracts, whirlpools, whirl-pools, killing heat fever, reptiles, hunger-maddened wild animals and savage tribesmen in what many explorers have called the greatest adventure of this generation. gener-ation. The adventurers, all members of the Explorers Club of France, made the trip in three 60 lb. kayaks, the only means of conveyance con-veyance that could have endured the heavy rapids and cataracts. They shot 8,500 feet of movie film and make 3,000 still photos. The amazing high quality filming film-ing brings startling close-ups of the wild animals of Africa and the awe-inspiring architecture . of early Egypt. |
