Show William West Receives His Doctor's Degree At the commencement exercises of the California Institute of Technology Tech-nology held at the school campus in Pasadena, California, June 10, William J. West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Junius A. West received the degree Doctor Philosophy, majoring major-ing in Physics and Mathematics. Mr. West is a graduate of the Pleasant Grove High School, class of 1938. He attended the Brigham Young University two years and filled a mission for two years, 1940 1942 in the New England States Mission. He attended the Massachusetts Mass-achusetts Institute of Technology, of Cambridge, Mass., from 1942 to 1944. He was graduated from this school in 1944 with the degree of Bachelor of Science. From 1944 to 1946 he was employed at the United Unit-ed States Naval and Military Radiation Radi-ation Laboratory. In 1946 Mr. West received a teaching fellowship at California Institute of Technology where he completed requirements for doctor's doc-tor's degree where he was graduated gradu-ated with honors. The subject of his thesis was: "A Precision Study of the Molybdenum and Tungsten K and Alha 1 X-Ray and a Measurement Meas-urement of the Relecting Properties Propert-ies of the (310) Planes of Quartz by the Method of the Two Crystal X-Ray Stectrometer." Mr. West is now employed as Physicist by the California Research Re-search Corporation, a subsidiary of Standard Oil Company. In 1942 he married Helen Wanick. They now reside in Pasadena, California. They have two children. |
