Girls To Attend Utah Girls State Three talented young ladies of Pleasant Grove have been selected to attend Utah Girls State to be held at Utah State Agricultural College, Logan, Utah, June 26th to July 3rd, 1949. The young ladies named by Karl Banks, Principal of the Pleasant Grove high school are Marilyn Walker, daughter of Mrs. Mae R. Walker; Patricia Anderson, daughter daugh-ter of Dr. and Mrs. G. Y. Anderson and Beverly Wright, daughter of Mrs. Oral W. Wright. Girls State is an effort of the American Legion Auxiliary to edu-. edu-. cat young women in the duties, j priviledges, rights and responsibil- , ities of American Citizenship. The I program is so arranged that the j girls observe at first hand the problems pro-blems of government. Among the requirements to be eligible to enter Girls State, a girl must be a member of the Junior class in high school. She must have qualities of leadership; must lie of good character; must be in the upper third of her class schol-arstically; schol-arstically; and should be able to take back to her community the interest and sense of responsibility in government which she should gain from Girls State. The American Legion Auxiliary of Post 70 is sponsoring the PI. Grove girls. Mrs. Karl Banks, Department President of the Auxiliary is sponsoring spon-soring each year, a girl as her own project. This year she has chosen a local girl, Miss Patricia Anderson, Ander-son, but hereafter Mrs. Banks will sponsor each year, a young lady from a community- in which there is no American Legion post. The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Miss Walker and Miss Wright will have as co-sponsors the Mothers Study Club, the Cadmus Club, and the Jaycees Gems. Local relatives and friends will be happy to learn of another young lady who will represent her community com-munity at Girls State. She is Miss Kathleen Adamson, a native of this city.
