Show Cities Get Funds For 1 948 Fire Protection Acceptance under protest of demands by nine Utah county cities cit-ies - who seek 30,000.00 for 3 01 8 fire protection of unincorporated areas - wasannounced by the Utah county commission today thru its chairman, George A. Checver. At the same time, the commission commiss-ion rejected demands of the cities concerning J919 fire protection plans. In a letter dated September 27, to Springville Mayor Sterling Price the county commission staled that they would pay the requested money for the 1918 appropriation but no mention was made of accepting ac-cepting the balance of the demands lor an addition sum of $39,000.00 for 1919 fire protection approp-riat approp-riat ion. The letter reads: "Realizing we can do nothing at the present time to handle the situation except meet your demands we will propose under protest to conpensate cities for 4918 fire protection with $30,000.00." The rest of the letter stated that the commission felt they were being compelled to do more than their share and that with the acceptance ac-ceptance of this money, the cities would be required to make a monthly mon-thly report on each fire including such matters as: Date of fire, property pro-perty on which fire occurred, kind of fire; estimated damage, distance traveled and number of men attending at-tending fire. "We are going to have to pay the amount requested but the additional ad-ditional sum asked for which will amount to nearly $39,999 for the 1949 appropriation for county fire protection will not be accepted by the commission," Mr. Cheever stated. |
