Show Four Lane Highway From Pleasant Grove To Provo To Be Constructed In 1948 State and Federal road construction con-struction in Utah County totaling $1,097,006 in work either slated for 19 18 or completed this year, including in-cluding the four-laning next year of two more sections of U. S. 91, was announced by Ray Leavitt, chairman of the state road commission. com-mission. Mr. Leavitt revealed that widening wid-ening of U. S. 91 to a four-lane highway for 12 miles between Pleasant Grove and Provo, at an estimated cost of $220,000, is scheduled for 1948. Also slated for next year is the construction of a four-lanc highway high-way from the east edge of Santa-quin Santa-quin to the Juab county line, 4.4 miles an at estimated cost of $250,000. This will be a realignment realign-ment of the present 91, bypassing Santaquin. Now under construction and near completion is the widening of U. S. 91 to four lanes for 1.9 miles from Lehi to the Point of the Mountain at a cost of $147,000. All of the foregoing work on U. S. 91 is under the U. S. federal aid primary road program, for improvement of major highways. Under the federal aid secondary second-ary road program for improvement improve-ment of what is known as "farm to market roads," the following in Utah county is either completed, underway, or planned for next year: Construction of the first units of the Lehi to Fairfield road, 1.6 miles west from Lehi including includ-ing a new Jordan river bridge, costing $105,011, completed. Construction Con-struction of 16.1 miles to complete com-plete this road on' to Fairfield, estimated cost of $278,000, work now underway and scheduled for completion next year. Construct--ion of 4,1 miles from Spanish Fork to Mapleton, estimated cost of $80,000, call for bids issued and bids to be opened Nov. 12. Some grading may be done this year if a satisfactory bidder is obtained on the Spanish Fork Mapleton job, with surfacing and finishing slated for next year. Six stretches of road throughout through-out Utah county were started this year entirely with state funds, and all have been completed but one. Those completed include: Orem to Edgemont, 1.5 miles, $4500;, three miles in the Palmyra area, approaching Palmyra from the Benjamin road, $10,000; three miles from Payson west toward the sugar factory, $7680; resurfacing resurfac-ing of the old Orem railroad bed on Provo's Center . street from First to Third South, $2000. , . The state road project still to be completed is the construction of 3.8 miles from the east limits of Springville to the Uinta forest boundary in Hobble Creek canyon, $20,715. This project is now underway und-erway and should be completed next spring. All construction except that planned for U. S. 91 is of the two-lane two-lane suffaced variety. |
