Show THIRD WARD TEAM REPRESENTS STAKE AT DISTRICT MEET By virtue of their 32-31 victory over Manila last. Friday, Third j Ward became Timpanogos Stake's representative in the Division tournament tour-nament which began last Wednes-, day at Payson. The Third Ward team won their first tournament game Wednesday by trouncing Meadow 46-24, and were scheduled to play the Fourth University Ward Thursday. Our Stake is expecting the Third ward to win this tournament tour-nament to gain a place in the All-Church finals. In the final game of the Stake play'-off lrjt week, a rejuvenated rejuven-ated Third ward team squeezed through a one point victory cver the luckless Manila boys, to hr-.d them their third defeat of the 'eascn....each one a one-point loss. The Third Ward, jumped into an early lead with all 'five players joining in the scoring, to lead 16 13 at the .half and 26-18 at the third quarter mark During the fore-,part of the 'final period, the winners hit the hoop to gain a 12 point advantage ad-vantage at one time before the Manila offense began to click. Then with Lee and Dick Swenson nd Wadley hitting the hocp in rapid succession, the score was narrowed down to 32-31 when Dick Swenson drew a foul toss with ten seconds of .play remaining. The strain was too great and Dick wes unable to convert, so the game ended without further score. Carter was high man 'for the winners with 9 points followed by J. H. and Gene Harvey with 7 and 6 points and Nielson and Adamson with 5 apiece. For the losers, Dick Swenson hit with some sensational long one-handers for 14 points, Lee Swenson assisted with 7 and Bern Swenson and Wadley contributed 4 points each while John Swenson and Monson each gained 1 point. In the preliminary game, First Wkird unset T lndon, 45-21 to crawl out of the cellar position This V1""! to n close one of the most successful seasons of M-Men Basketball in our Stake., The Stake Y. M. M. I. A. officers and the Ward coaches and players are to be complimented on their high standards stand-ards of conduct and play.
