Show Nutrition Expert Gives Hints For Saving Food Food saving suggestions, designed for hot summer months when food wastes invariably increase, were outlined this week by Miss Elna Miller, Utah agricultural extension service nutritionist. . "Put on your- list of foods to watch most closely, meat, eggs and milk. To keep them over a day you need a refrigerator or another very cold storage space. If you haven't such storage space, don't keep on hand any more than you can use during the day," is Miss Miller's first anti-waste suggestion. Raw meats, poultry and fish should be kept in the coldest part of the refrigerator or the coldest storage place, for a temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit or lower is needed to preserve these goods, Miss Miller adds. "Milk like meat, belongs in your coldest storage spot. Never let it stand out at room temperature, and when you get milk out for cooking, take only as much as you need, pop the main supply back into the cold quickly," the nutritionist tells housewives. For eggs, Miss Miller recommends storage in the coldest spot available, avail-able, since they lose a lot of freshness fresh-ness after a few hours In a warm room. |
