Show Am. Fork Day Great Success There was little indication of depression de-pression nor the cares of the times in the faces of the throngs whicn crowded Saratoga resort for the annual ann-ual American Fork day celebration sponsored by the Lions club Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon and evening. Everybody was happy and jollity reigned during the entire time, and even the several showers of rain failed to dampen the holiday spirit. Commencing before noon the trucks started transporting people to the resort, together with the many private pri-vate cars which left early in the afternoon. It is estimated that upwards up-wards of two thousand persons joined join-ed in the outing, probably the largest community outing American Fork has known. The program was carried out as scheduled. The baseball game was won by the team from the north side of the city captained by Bert Chris- I tensen and the huskies from the west side of town straining on the tug-o-war rope overbalanced the east side team. The rope broke once and the men pulling with every ounce of energy were keeled backwards with some force but no one was hurt. The races on the lawns and the competitive diving and swimming events topped off with burlesque stunts pulled by Roy Passey in the outside pool provided entertainment for everyone. Following the supper hour the American Fork band gave a concert in the dance hall, and soon afterwards the evening dance began. The members of the various committees com-mittees are gratified with the success suc-cess of the outing and the entire community is indebted to the Lions club -for the outing which afforded everyone a great deal of pleasure. General Chairman Glen Taylor in behalf of the Lions club wishes to thank each and every worker on the outing for their assistance and to the business houses and individuals for their prizes which helped so 'much to put the day over. The ' names of the Rainbow Cafe and the Utah Power & Light company were left off the prize list thru an error. Each contributed fine prizes. The transportation committee headed by I. L. Pratt and the sports committee headed by Leo Nelson are to be especially thanked for their work. Those two committees went the limit in making the day the success suc-cess it was. r . |
