Show Z ?lans Invesation Ot Lions Club Proposal or Traffic Semaphores IRRIGATION COMPANY RENEWS ISSUE ON CULVERTS Investigation a7"to the feasibility of installing two .traffic semaphore lights on Main street in the business district here was approved by the American Fork city council at a ses-sion ses-sion Monday night in the city hall ! A committee from the American Fork Lions club appeared before the council, with the recommendation that traffic lights be installed in order to control traffic. John H Miller, Lions club president, and Lions M. L. Baird and David Taylor made up the committee. Mayor Albert Tregaskis reported that this problem had been discussed by the council in the past, and that it had been recommended by the State Road Commission that two semaphore lights be installed to bt effective. He suggested that any plan should be worked out along these lines. Councilman William S. 'Storrs moved that the problem be investigated. investi-gated. Seconded by Councilman Ray Ellison, the motion carried. Other varied problems, including fire equipment additions, current cash borrowing for the city, spotting of cars at street intersections and the culverts question raised again by the American Fork Irrigation company, com-pany, were discussed. Application forms for submitting a project for fire equipment additions to the P. W. A., and feasibility of working out a project for acquiring the additional equipment, were discussed. dis-cussed. It was decided that the matter mat-ter be investigated further, and the P. W. A. office in Salt Lake City be contacted for information. Fire Chief Walter B. Devey report- ed that a number of fire hydrants had been investigated and found to be of little use due to wrong size connection and too small feeder pipes. He stated that further investigations in-vestigations were to be made, and recommendations would be made at that time. Chief Devey also suggested that extra parts for the present hose mending machine be purchased, to adapt it to mend 1 inch hose. Outlay for these parts, he pointed out, would save the charge of 50 cents a hose coupling, which is made for mending hose. Councilman A. F. Christensen moved the parts be purchased, and the motion was seconded sec-onded by Councilman James Tat-tersall. Tat-tersall. A resolution to borrow $1500 was introduced by Councilman Tattersall, was seconded by Councilman Storrs, and carried. Mayor Albert Tregaskis reported that the American Fork Irrigation company had again raised the question ques-tion as to responsibility for maintenance main-tenance of culverts. It was recommended recom-mended that a committee from the company and the council be appointed ap-pointed to go over the situation and try to arrive at a decision and make recommendations to remedy existing disagreements. For the city, William S. Storrs, James Tattersall and A. F. Christensen were appointed. Recorder Karl Bennett was instructed in-structed to wirte to the D. & R. O. W. railroad and the Union Pacific railroad in regards to car spotting anc road crossing on the railroad lines' in the city, it having been pointed out that objectionable practices prac-tices are common. ,.,,!' |
