Show School To Stage Piratical Opera Next Wednesday The opera "The Pirates of Penzance" by Gilbert and Sullivan will be presented by the American Fork high school, April 6, at 8 p. m. in the high school auditorium. It is a comedy in two acts, based on the story of a young boy apprenticed appren-ticed to a pirate crew by a mistake of his nursemaid, Ruth, who should have apprenticed him to a pilot until un-til he was 21. The boy, Frederic has just reached the age of 21, an- is out of his indentures. in-dentures. The nursemaid has fallen in love with him and plans to marry mar-ry him, but, before her plan is completed com-pleted a bevy of very beautiful maidens mai-dens appear. Frederic, seeing them, finds that the nursemaid has deceived de-ceived him, which causes him to turn against her and fall in love with Mabel, one of the beautiful daughters of Major Stanley. Frederic has planned to exterminate exter-minate the pirates, but when it is proven by the pirate king that he is only 5 years of age, "having been born on leap year" he decides that he will have to remain with the pirate pi-rate crew until 1940. Many interesting scenes follow and it so ends that the pirates repent re-pent their evil ways and Frederic is united with Mabel and the Major and his large family of girls are per-. per-. mitted to leave in peace. CAST OF CHARACTERS Richard, a pirate chief, Wayne C. Bocth; Samuel, his lieutenant, Gordon Gor-don Lee; Frederic, Mack Cunningham; Cunning-ham; Major-General Stanley, of the British Army, Keith Miller; Edward, a sergeant of police, Dean Bateman; Mabel, General Stanley's youngest daughter, Nan Chipman; Kate, Helen Hel-en Chamberlain; Edith, General Stanley's daughters, Evelyn Peck; Isabel, Sarah Barratt; Ruth, a piratical pi-ratical "maid-of-all-work", Mildred Andersen. An orchestra of twenty members will accompany the vocal group. Miss Elaine Smith is pianist accompanist; accom-panist; Miss Fern Nelson, dramatic director; Luther Giddings, lighting director; Roland Hansen, stage manager, and K. J. Bird, director. |
