Show VIKING VIEWS In The News Do the young people of today have opinions on the present national' problems? This will be proven when members of the Pleasant Grove debate club, meet members of the other debate clubs in the Alpine Al-pine schools, in a fifteen minute radio broadcast at Provo, Utah, on October 14, 1939. The object of the broadcast is to give students a chance to express their opinions on the present neutrality neu-trality problem. Each person participating par-ticipating in this broadcast must be prepared to discuss in full, any question given him. The debate club has also received an invitation to discuss this neutrality neu-trality problem before the Pleasant Grove Lions' Club. A combined G. A. A. and Girls' League Assembly was held Wednesday, Wednes-day, October 11. Beth Hooley, president pres-ident of both organizations took charge and the opening prayer was offered by Miss Ellen Walker. Hazel Hardman, Glida Jense, Pearl Hicks, and Carma Wadley danced a Dumb Bell dance; Jeanne West, vocal solo "To You"; Beverly West, humorous reading; Maurine Lim, piano solo "Stair Way to the Stars." Miss Fen-ton, Fen-ton, vocal solo; Betty Heidenrich and Genile Cullimore, tap dance. A fashion parade with all sophomore girls dressed in old fashioned dresses was the next interesting number on the program. June Proctor played a saxaphone solo; the trio sang, "I'm Sorry For Myself"; Betty Louise Bullock, reading; Lucile Halliday, tap dance ; Jeanne West sang "Moon Love"; Louise Brimhall, reading. Miss Banner concluded the assembly with a talk about girls' organizations. organiza-tions. P. G. eleven was defeated 13-6 when they played Spanish Fork on their own campus Friday, October 6th. Both teams played straight football until the last of the first quarter when Spanish Fork completed com-pleted a fifteen yard pass which put them in scoring position, then went off right tackle for a touchdown but failed to make the extra point. It looked as though the game would end 13 to 0, but in the last quarter the Vikings made a touch down when Kellv Giles nassed to Bvron Carter, who ran 60 yards to score, after which the team failed to convert con-vert the extra point. The Spaniards were in possession of the ball when the game ended. Vital problems to Seminary work will be discussed by all Central Utah Seminary workers at a convention in the Provo Seminary the 4th of November and in the Sharon Seminary Semi-nary the 5th of November. The meetings will be under the direction of Dr. Frank L. West, Commissioner Commission-er of Education, and Dr. M. Lynn Bennion supervisor. As a special feature of the convention, a banquet will be held at the Girls' Home in Provo canyon. Mrs. Karl Banks, Mrs. Alfred Rogers, Rog-ers, and Mrs. Harry Richards, retiring re-tiring officers, entertained the High School Faculty Ladies Club at the Banks' home Wednesday evening. New officers who are elected for the following year were: President, Mrs. Elroy West; vice president, Mrs. Joseph Day; secretary, Miss Edna Gillman. Then a delicious luncheon was enjoyed en-joyed and the rest of the evening was spent in playing cards. Prizes were won by Mrs. Guy Hillman and Mrs. James Simmons. Those present were: Mrs. Elroy West, Mrs. Guy Hillman, Mrs. William Will-iam Smith, Mrs. Joseph Day, Mrs. Clarence Rollins, Mrs. Irwin Jensen, Miss Laura Banner, Miss Estelle Fenton, and Miss Edna Gillman. "We had a grand time," was the comment from all the sophomores after their party last Wednesday in the ladies gymnasium. Games were played and tasty refreshments were served. The party was under the direction of the class president, Julian West. Kathleen West was elected secretary secre-tary of the Pep Club at a meeting held in the sewing room on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, October 4th. Shirley Harris, president of the Pep Club, was in charge. Peppy Pep Club girls marched during the half of the football game Friday, October 6th. They were led in formations and yells by the cheer leaders. Don, Thelda and Ardie. and by their president. Shirley Shir-ley Harris. Mr. West, typing instructor, reported re-ported that last week Maurine Lim. sophomore, scored highest in a typhis typ-his test. She achieved 92 words a minute with no errors in a one minute speed test. Ab Jenkins. Utah's number one man. and a candidate for mayor of Salt Lake City, is scneduled to be at the Pleasant Grove high school October 25. He will tell of the races : and other important events in his ! life. Mr. Jenkins is world renowned for his records in automobile racing. I !
