Show STATE RENEWS ASSURANCE OF STREETSUPvVEY A promise that n survey of Main street would be made to determine the feasibility of widening it as proposed pro-posed last spring, was obtained from the Utah State Road commission by an American Fork delegation Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Waiting on the commission in the interests of the proposed widening were Councilman William S. Storrs, William Chipman, and Dr. Guy S. Richards. Object of the Improvement Improve-ment would be to accomodate through travel on highway 91, which is routed on Main street. The road commission last spring assured a local committee, representing represent-ing the Lions club and the city, that a survey would shortly be made. However, the commission failed to send its engineers here for that pur- pose. At the conference last spring, the road commission talked favorably of the highway widening proposal, which was pointed out as a solution to the traffic problem in the business busi-ness section. The delegation was told then that the state lacks the finances for the project, but that a snrvev would be made. The attitude of the commission proved to be cooler Wednesday than at the first conference several months ago, the delegation reported upon returning here. Mention was made of by-passing the city with the highway, routing It through the south residential section. The widening proposal was advanced ad-vanced last spring by the Lions club and the city council, to prevent fu-Iture fu-Iture rerouting of the highway of Main street, which, it is believed, would be harmful to the city and to business here. In favor of the proj- ect it was pointed out that with an additional six feet on each side of the street a highway of ample width w-ould be provided, and at considerably consider-ably less cost than new construction on a defferent route. |
