Show Decisive Vote Elects Entire Republican Ticket Wootton Leads With 717 1 Votes, In Mayoral Race Marked By Heavy Ballot Republicans scored a decisive victory vic-tory in the municipal elections Tuesday, Tues-day, when O. DeVere Wootton, candidate can-didate for mayor, and the entire Republican ticket won large majorities majori-ties at the polls. Mr. Wootton polled 717 votes, and his opponent, Dr. Guy S. Richards, won 582 votes. Successful candidates were Mr. Wootton, for mayor; James H. Tat-tersall, Tat-tersall, four-year councilman; Leo B. Nelson, J. Stanley Peters and Henry Parduhn, for two-year councilmen; coun-cilmen; Karl Bennett, for recorder, and Mary A. Earl for treasurer. Mary A. Earl, candidate for reelection re-election to the office of treasurer, was the high candidate, in the voting, vot-ing, 880 votes being cast in her favor. Karl H. Bennett, incumbent . city recorder, also won a heavy vote, totaling 824, for reelection to that position. Majorities by which the ticket was elected ranged from 120 votes to 468. Both parties staged lively campaigns, cam-paigns, and a close election, with probably a split of the various positions, posi-tions, was expected by most observers. observ-ers. The voting was unusually heavy, 1299 votes being cast. At the last election, in 1937, there were 1125. |
