Show Local Items Robert W. Gaisford, son of Mr. iiiul Mrs. Victor Gaisford, arrived in American Fork Thursday, on leave from the United States Navy. Robert Rob-ert has completed the recruit training train-ing at the San Dictio base, and will be assigned to a ship upon his return. re-turn. Mrs. Geoi'Ke Abel entertained at a shower Wednesday evening, in honor of Mrs. Glen Newman, the former Mariam Greening, a recent bride. A delightful evening was spent, and the bride received many beautiful and useful gifts. Mrs. Thelma Lynch entertained the Deltha Dames club Wednesday evening, January 2. Mrs. June Peterson Pet-erson of Lchi was a guest. Mrs. Helen Bates won high score prize and Mrs. Louise Storrs the consolation consola-tion award. A delightful lunch was served at eight o'clock. , I Richard Ashby's twelfth, birthday ! anniversary was celebrated Wed-, Wed-, nesday evening, January 10, by a gathering of a number of his I friends. i Mr. and Mrs. Knord Eeck enter-l enter-l tained the following guests at a din-I din-I ner party Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Anderson of American Fork; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Thorne, Mr. and Mrs. William Peterson, Pleasant Grove. All reported an enjoyable evening. The members of the Soiree bridge club enjoyed a delightful pot-luck party at the home of Mrs. Gene Gordon, Thursday evening. Mrs. Si Bell won the club prize, Mrs. Ronald Driggs the guest favor and Mrs. Floyd Loveridge the consolation prize. A delicious lunch was served to the members of the following guests: Mrs. LaDrew Varney, Mrs. Leo Bowen and Mrs. Ronald Driggs. Jack Wagstaff and Don Searles ! were hosts to the Beethoven club, at the Wagstaff home on Thursday evening, January 4. Asplendid program pro-gram was given, including a cornet solo, "Pride of the Waves", by Alva Goodall; bass viol solo, "The Jolly Dutchman"; vocal solo, "Then You'll Remember Me", by Kathryn Bird, accompanied by Anna Beth Smith; talk on "Current Events", Jack Wagstaff; lesson on the Wagnerian operas, "The Flying Dutchman" and "Lohengrin", given by LaDell Terry and Alva Goodall. Mildred Richards Rich-ards accompanied the musical numbers, num-bers, except the vocal solo. At the annual meeting of the Utah Fur Breeders' association, held at thij Hotel Utah on January 10, R. L. Ashby of American Fork was elected elect-ed president of that organization. For the past year, Mr. Ashby has been vice-president. He has served serv-ed as a member of the board of directors ever since the organization organiza-tion was formed over ten years ago. La Von Earl and Sarah Earl returned re-turned on January 6 from an enjoyable enjoy-able trip to Detroit, Michigan, where they went in company with a group of friends from Salt Lake City. They left on December 27, and were in Chicago for New Year's, spending two days there. They went on to Detroit, where they picked up two new cars. They report having had a splendid trip. A number of neighborhood friends pleasantly surprised Mrs. A. F. Gaisford Gais-ford Tuesday afternoon. The afternoon after-noon was spent in playing contract bridge, and refreshments were served. serv-ed. The group included Mrs. Ivy Steele, Mrs. Ora Chipman, Mrs. Mary Pett, Mrs. May Shelley, Mrs. Cora Chadwick,'Mrs. Barbara Boley, and Mrs. Louella Greenwood, besides be-sides Mrs. Gaisford. The adult class of the First ward M. I. A. had a most enjoyable ,time, at a party Tuesday evening following follow-ing the M. I. A. meeting. Games were played, and refreshments were served. After spending a week in California Cali-fornia and seeing- the Parade of Roses, John H. Miller, Howard Pax-man, Pax-man, W. R. Halliday, Clyde Crook-ston Crook-ston and Keith Miller "rolled in" to American Fork at midnight, on Thursday of last week. Traveling in Mr. Miller's automobile, they left here on Saturday, December 30, and arrived in Los Angeles the next day. They were in Los Angeles on New Year's eve, and report that the event was celebrated in a "big way" there. Broadway was closed to motor traffic for quite a distance, and on this street the revelers gathered gath-ered to see the old year out and the new year in. On New Year's day, the visitors saw the Rose Parade at Pasadena, and they report that this was a marvelous spectacle. After a most enjoyable vacation, they returned re-turned and were "back on the job" Friday. The Junior Literary club members mem-bers and their guests met Monday afternoon in the city hall, where a. splendid program was presented. Miss Fern Smoot, of the American Fork high school faculty, reviewed a book, "Practically Faithful", and the American Fork high school ladies glee, directed by Kenneth J. Bird, sang three numbers. Mrs. Doris Robinson, club president, presided. pre-sided. The committee in charge of the meeting included Mrs. Walter B. Devey, Mrs. Clare Christensen and Mrs. Stanley Peters. |
