Show J GLEASON FAMILY HOLDS REUNION Descendants and relatives of John S. Gleason held a reunion Saturday and Sunday at the old homestead on the state highway ebtween here and American Fork. John S. Gleason was a member of the first company of Utah pioneers pio-neers ' under .President Brigiham Young- As a member of a trail blazing and scouting party he entered en-tered Salt Lake valley on July 22, 1847, two days ahead of the main company. He returned to Winter Quarters that fall, returning with his family the following year. After a long life of service to the church and in the building up of the West, he died at his home here m 1904. He had three wives, Desdamona Chase Gleason, Eliza Ann) Malin Gleason, and Mary Ann Sutherland Gleason. Representatives of all three of his families were among the 125 persons at the reunion. Saturday afternoon outdoor games were featured, a bonfire program was held Saturday evening and a formal meeting and program, was held Sunday forenoon- Tents were pitched on the spacious premises prem-ises Saturday night, while some, for the novelty of it, slept on the hay in the big barn. Meals were served on long tables under the trees- An organization was affected, consisting con-sisting of Thomas H. Gleason, only living son of the pioneer and present pres-ent owner of the old homestead, president; J. Chase Gleason and J. R. Kennard, vice presidents; Mary Gleason Maxfield, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. Lorena Larson, genealogist; Marie Gleason Bennett and Carrie Gleason Sanders, historians, and Edward Ed-ward C. Gleason, chairman of the reunion committee. a- |
