Show Pleasant Grove Locals Mrs. Mary Cooper spent Monday and Tuesday in Salt Lake at the bed-Bide bed-Bide of her mother, Mrs. Eliza Lewis, rvliu is ill- Miss Leda Thompson returned Sunday from the L. D. S. Hospital, where she underwent a minor operation opera-tion last week. Mrs. Clara Kirk had the misfortune misfor-tune to fall on the ice near a hydrant in (he door yard of her home, breaking break-ing her left wrist. Mr. and Mrs. John Lowe and daughter have been visiting with Mrs. A. B. Walker (a sister of Mrs. Lowe) for the past week. They left Friday for Fountain Green to visit for a short time with relatives there, before be-fore returning to their home in Beaver. ! Mrs. A. G. Keetch visited Monday i with her dn tighter, Mrs. Hazel Kirk, ' who resides in Provo. ."Irs. Mae Grua attended a business meeting of the county chapter of the Daughters of the Pioneers at Provo on Thursday. Mrs. Maggie Johnson, Mrs. Maria Swenson, Mrs. Annie Holman and Mrs. Nettie Warnick visited Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Warnick. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Boren entertained enter-tained at a delightful party Saturday evening. ' The time was spent playing progressive "Rook" after which a delicious de-licious two course luncheon was served. serv-ed. Mrs. Myrtle Green and Leo P. Harvey won high honors in the card game and Mr. Kemp and Dr. Huchel won prizes on the contest jokes. The guests present numbered twenty-two. The Sunshine committee of the Second Ward Relief Society held a social Wednesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Houston. The evening was spent in singing popular songs and social chat, followed by a daSnty refreshments. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. John Van Wagoner, Wagon-er, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gray, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Gleason, Mr. and Mrs. George Richards, Mr. and Mrs. John Christensen, Mrs. John Boulter, Mrs. Flo Nielson, Mrs. Laura Robertson and Mrs. Garland Clark. Mrs. Karl Banks was a Salt Lake visitor Thursday, February 7th. Mr and Mrs. Fred G. Warnick of Prove, and Mrs. Fred Foutz visiieu Tuesday with their uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Warnick. The Timpanogos Stake M. I. A. hoard meeting was held Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Warnick. After the meeting, a social hour and refreshments were enjoyed. Mrs. Ellen Wadley entertained the Relief Society at a quilting party Tuesday afternoon. Dainty refreshments refresh-ments were served. Leonard George called on his uncle, Lester Theobald, at the Luncheonette Luncheon-ette Monday, while enroute from St. George to San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Theobald attended at-tended a valentine party and social in company with Salt Lake relatives Wednesday evening. The Manila Primary Association enjoyed a valentine party Monday afternoon at their regular meeting. Refreshments were enjoyed by the little folks, following an hour of games. Mrs. L. P. Harvey entertained the Young Mothers Club at her home Thursday afternoon, February 6. Sixteen members were present. Delicious De-licious refreshments were served early in the evening. Mrs. John Butler of I'ayson, is visiiin;,' Indefinitely with her daughter, daught-er, Mrs. Ethel Drysdale. Mr. and Mrs. James Fugal of Shelley, Idaho, are visiting for a few days with relatives here. Mrs. Eleanor Slaugh returned home recently from Idaho, where she has been visiting for several months with her children, who reside there. Mrs. Annie Mills is convallessing at the ,L. D. S1. hospital in Salt Lake following an operation for gall stones. Mrs. Mills is still very critically ill. Mr. and Mrs. Artemus returned home for Old Folks day, following a three weeks visit with their son, George and family, at Salt Lake City. Mrs. Stena Clayton entertained at dinner Sunday. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Erval Christensen and John E. Christensen. Chris-tensen. Elroy Nelson of this city and Don Cluff have been chosen by the B. Y. XI. to take a debating trip through California Cali-fornia as represenative students of the B. Y. U. Old Folks Lay and ward reunion will be held in Lindon, February 22, Washington's birthday. Thornton attended at-tended the Lumberman's banquet at Provo Wednesday. Saturday night the XTtah Slate Lumberman will enjoy a convention with a banquet in the evening. Mrs. Ethel Di vsdale attended a meeting at Provo Wednesday, of the lady employees of the Utah Power & Light company of Utah county. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Peterson and baby of Provo, spent the past week with Mrs. Peterson's sister, Mrs. Ernest Olson. Ezra F. Walker, who has been ill with a broken leg, is home again and recovering nicely. He has been recuperating re-cuperating at Nephi. Oak City and Lindon, with his children, but is able to care for himself now. The ITtah Power and Light Co. are planning to remove the transformers from the state highway near Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and put in a more modern improvement. Other needed improvements im-provements in our city will be made during the coming summer. In the annual contest conducted by the Banyon year book staff of the B. Y. IT., Elroy Nelson, second vice-president vice-president of the student body, was selected from the mens division and Helen Swenson, vice-president of the student body, was selected from the womens division as two of the popular popu-lar students to be honored with their photos in the Banyon. Mr. Wooton of the Jordan School District, made a very pleasant visit at the local high school Wednesday. Harold Wright, who is attending the li. V. U. took training at the local high school this week. C. P. Warnick, who has been ill for the pad three months, is reported to he improving in health. Miss Leah Eldridge of Granger, is visiting this week-end with her sister, Airs. Merril Warnick. Raymond Peterson of this city has been selected as a member of the B. Y. V debating team for local debates. The Lindon ward are preparing to hold their annual Old Folks Day and Ward Reunion on Washington's birthday, February 22. Roy Smith went to Salt Lake Thursday to visit his mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie Mills, who is recovering from a recent operation at the L. D. S. Hospital. Mrs. Robert Marrott entertained the Wamptha Club, at the home of her mother, Mrs. James Varney, oj ' American Fork on Thursday. The time was spent in sewing and social chat. Delicious refreshments were served. Among those who attended the Pioneer Pio-neer Costume Ball at the TJtahna Gardens Gar-dens in Provo Valentine night were: Mr. and Mrs. John Van Wagoner, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Taylor, Mrs. Edith Mouson, Mrs. John Houston, Mrs. Isaac coulam, Mrs. Rose B. Hayes and Mr. James A. Nelson. The Beehive girls and their partners part-ners of the Manila ward enjoyed a Valentine party Saturday evening, February 9, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Warnick. The rooms were decorated with red hearts and valentines. Progressive valentine was played during the evening. The first prize was awarded to Mildred Swenson, and the consolation to Merrill Warnick. A delicious lunch was served. Little baskets of valentine valen-tine candies were the favors. The M. I. A. of the Manila ward enjoyed a social Tuesday evening during dur-ing the Mutual period. The affair w-as in honor of Blaine W. Warnick who recently returned from the Eastern East-ern States mission and was sustained as First counselor of the M. I. A. The party was also in honor of Bryce Wadley, who has been released as First counselor, as he is now living in Provo and attending the B. Y. U. The program consisted of community singing, short talks and a reading by Sytha Johnson, followed by dancing. First Lieutenant Ethel Fenton conducted the exercises as follows: Opening song Come, Come Ye Saints"; prayer by S. L. Swenson; vocal solo, Elizabeth Green, accompanied by her mother; organ solo, Vera Hone; a biography of John E. Smith prepared by his wife, who is 77 years of age, was read by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. WiHarrt Smltn-, select reading by Mrs. Annie Buttler, granddaughter-in-law; reading "The Pea Gull Monument" by Emily Mad-sen; Mad-sen; talk on the work of the committee com-mittee on "Landmarks and Relics" by Chairman Edith Monson; remarks by Captain Erne Adamson, Rose H. Harp er and S. ,L. Swenson, the latter paid tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, whom he had known all his life. Mrs. Smith stated that all of their children, child-ren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were living in Utah, were present and further said they greatly appreciated the people of Pleasant Grove. Mrs. Addie Hone, Mrs. Gertie Blackhurst and Alex Ellis testified to the worlh of the Smith family as neighbors and citizens; singing "Oh Zion, Dear Zion;" benediction bene-diction by Win, M. Hone. j |
