Show Old Folks Day Fittingly Observed The committee in charge of the Old Folks day program are to be commended com-mended for the excellent way in which the day's activities was put over, Tuesday, February 12. At it o'clock all o the old folks and visitors assembled, where they were greeted by a reception committee. commit-tee. A general renewal and aquaint-ance aquaint-ance was continued until 11:30, at which time the meeting was called to order by Chairman Hans Williamson, and the following program enjoyed: Congregational singing led by F. S. Humphries, "High on the Mountain top."; Invocation by Bishop C. A. Gamett; Singing, "Redeemer of Israel"; Is-rael"; Welcome talk and jokes by stake chairman, Thomas Fen ton; Reading, Mrs. Elizabeth Noble; Congregational Con-gregational song 'Our Mountain home so Dear". Dinner was served to 144 Old Folks and guests besides the committee com-mittee at luncheon hour. During the dinner james H. Walker acted as toastmaster. Toasts were given by C. B. Harper, Patriarch S. L. Swen-son, Swen-son, F. S. Humphries, Mrs. Eliza Banks, President W. W. Warnick, and stake Chairman Thomas Fenton. At 2 p. m. another program was enjoyed, which consisted of the following fol-lowing numbers: Duet John Halli-day Halli-day and Vola Johnson, accompanied by Gennieve Fugal; Solo, John Halli-day Halli-day accompanied by Gennieve Fugal; Readings, Mrs. H. E. Johnson and Maurine Gourley; Solo, Roy Fage accompanied by Gennieve Fugal; Original poem, "Old Folks Day" by Luella E. Thome; two Old Fashioned songs with banjo accompaniment by John R. Halliday; Reading, Sytha Johnson; Violin solo by R. E. Moffett accompanied by Gennieve Fugal; Trombone solo by Mr. Beck acconip- anied by M'r. Moffett and Miss Fugal; Talk by President W. W. Warnick; Benediction, Bishop B. H. Adams. During the program Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Humphries presented flowers, sweet peas and carnations, to give to all aged people. Mr. and Mrs. John E. Smith received a beautiful bouquet bou-quet for being married the longest time of any couple present. At the close of the program the aged people and their guests were entertained at a free picture show as guests of the Alhambra Theatre management. man-agement. Mrs. Maag Is Laid To Rest .Largely attended funeral services were held in the Vineyard ward chapel Monday afternoon, for Mrs. Anna Maag, who. died at her home (n Vineyard Friday morning. Bishop S. H. Blake presided at the services. The invocation was offered by Victor Anderson, and the closing prayer was pronounced by Joseph A. Murdock. The speakers, who each testified to the splendid life of their departed friend, were Raymond Harding, Joy 0. Clegg and Mrs. Inez K. Allen. Beautiful selections were furnished furnish-ed by the mixed quartet consisting of Kirby Allen, Mrs. Ella Herber.tson, Mrs. Leora Harding and Leo Allen, after which solos were rendered by Mrs. Herbertson and John K. Allen. Selections were also given by the Allen Al-len brothers quartet and Howard Anderson. An-derson. Axel F. Anderson offered the bene-dicatory bene-dicatory prayer at the Provo city cemetery. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. n |
