Show Former fire chief dies Grant R. Walker, a native of Lindon, died Friday, March 24, in Bountiful, after a long life of service as a fireman, fire chief and fire marshall in Utah. Grant was honored last summer at an Invitational Fire Muster held in Draper. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1933 and joined the Salt Lake City Fire Department in 1942. He was a chief officer for 10 years and fire chief for four years before retiring in 1970. He served in the fire department for a total of 28 years. . Later Grant was a canyon patrolman pa-trolman and spent four years as a fire warden in Parleys and City Creek Canyons after he retired. In addition, Grant was state director of fire training at Utah Technical College in Salt Lake for two years and was state fire marshal mar-shal from 1976 through 1981. He was active on the State Fire Advisory Committee and the Utah Crime Prevention Committee.
