The Pirates, coached by Dave Taylor and Del Young, took second place, while the A's, coached by Jan Davis and Neil Armitstead, took eighth. The Braves, coached by Glenn McMurtrey and Doug Cowley, competed Friday night play with a 10th place finish. League representative Glenn McMurtrey congratulated all the Pleasant Grove teams in the tournament tour-nament and said the city was well represented by the quality of play and competitiveness of the boys. "It wasn't unusual," McMurtrey said, "to see higher seeded teams from other counties saving their best pitchers for any Pleasant Grove team they knew they'd meet in the bracketing. That's a real compliment compli-ment to the program this city has built." This year the city program had over 200 boys, 16 teams and a lot of coaches, "some of them in front of the backstop and some of them behind it," McMurtrey said goodnaturedly. |
