Show Lady Vikes earn state playoff berth The Lady Vikings ripped the Payson Lions, as they completely dominated the entire game and won by a score of 61-31 last Tuesday. From the first three baskets, all scored by Kirsten Van Dyke, the Vikings kept and held the lead. The half time score was 33-12 and while the Vikes continued to pile up points, the Lions stayed at 12 until the last two minutes in the third quarter. Running away with the score and on to the victory, the ladies were led by Hope Smith with 11 points and Vikki Allred who had 10. On Thursday the Timpview T-Birds T-Birds came ready to play ball and they capitalized on their home court advantage to edge the PG Vikings, who fell behind only in the final few minutes of play, losing 48-55. The scrappy defensive T-birds pressed the lady Vikes the entire game and are masters at intercepting in-tercepting passes and stealing the ball from their opponents. Both were big factors as tney kept tne pressure on. The teams were pretty evenly matched and at the end of the third quarter Timpview was ahead by 3. VaLynn Storey's three point play put the Vikings ahead in the early part of the fourth period and the score was tied twice after that as both teams missed foul shots and their chance to pull ahead. With 46 seconds remaining, the score was 51-47 and Timpview had possession. The Vikes were forced to foul. The foul shots that the Birds made clinched the victory for them in the last few seconds of the game. Vikki Allred and Hope Smith led the scoring with 12 each and Erin Measom was also in double figures with 10. The final round of Region play held last night will determine seeding for the State Tournament. In Region 8 the Uintah Utes have remained in the Number 1 spot and Provo Bulldogs are in second place. With the PG Vikings likelv tied with Timpview for third, the outcome of last night's games will determine third and fourth palces. If the two teams remain tied, each will be at the mercy of the flip of a coin, and the winner will play a Southern Utah team, like Pineview, in the first round of State Tournament Tour-nament play on Monday, Feb. 29 at Roy High School. In discussing the season with Coach Marie Bone, she commented, "Although we have struggled toward the end of Region play, I feel we have as good a chance as any other team in the State Tournament.
