Show Public Mtg. scheduled for Jr. High proposal A public input meeting will be held at Pleasant Grove Junior High School today, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. on a proposal that the school begin a productivity type of operation next fall. All patrons of the school are invited in-vited and encouraged to attend. Principal Kent Rowley said that the junior high will make a proposal to the Board of Education on Jan. 26 that the school adopt an operation similar to that which has been done at American Fork Junior High. Under the productivity program, teachers teach seven periods a day -dropping the prepartion period each teacher now has. Instead, class outlines are prepared in the months when school is not held. The program allows the school to teach more students with fewer teachers. At Pleasant Grove Jr. High, the faculty would be cut by 10 teachers. The salary that would have been paid to the extra faculty members is used to pay teachers for the extra preparation time, and for accepting the increased class load. Rowley said this plan is necessary because there won't be enough room for the students who will be attending at-tending next year under the current system. With ten fewer teachers, the class size would increase in some classes. Rowley said faculty reductions can be done without firing any teachers. Two would be transfered to another school. Additional teachers to handle the increase in students simply would not be hired. |
