Show PGFD responds to 5 calls " The Pleasant Grove Fire Department Depart-ment responded to five calls in the month of November. Two of these calls were false alarms, two were car fires and one was a house fire caused by food cooking on the stove. One false alarm illustrates the need for citizens having a controlled fire to contact the police department and notify the dispatcher of the location and material to be burned. On the 8th of November this contact was not made and a neighbor seeing the flames and smoke called in the fire alarm to which the fire department responded to find a controlled burn. The other false alarm was reported by a person pasing by the 7-11 Stor and thought he saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. Upon arrival at the . store the . fire department could see no smoke or find any fire. The house fire occured in the Blackhawk area and was a esult of food being left on the stove to cook. The resident of the home was at home at the time and made aware of the fire i by the smoke detector in the house. j With this early notification and assistance by neighbors with fire j extinguishers the fire was out when the fire department arrived and damage was limited to the wall and one cabinet. This instance illustrates the importance of having smoke detec- j tors and extinguishers in homes. j With Christmastime approaching citizens are encouraged to use tree i stands that allow watering to keep the tree from becoming too dry. Wiring on lights should be checked for possible bare or broken wires that j could cause shorting. When leaving the home the tree lights should be turned off. Candles and fires in fireplaces should be carefuly watched. Caution is adivsed during the holiday season to avoid tragedy or disaster. |
