Show Vikings Come Back With Win Over Springville by Guy Madsen Pleasant Grove's Varsity team shook off a cold streak in the first quarter and came back to beat Springville 41-39 41-39 last week. While Mark Atwood and David Ratliff had a shooting slump, Garth Hansen picked up the slack. He opened up the scoring in the first half and did a good job on the boards. Springville jumped off to a five point lead in the first quarter and really set the pace. The Vikes had to get all their buckets by drives because their shots would not fall from outside. Good Viking defense got them back into the game. After fine drives by Ratliff and Atwood, the Vikings took 22-18 lead into the locker room at half. The second half went back and forth with the lead changing consistently con-sistently and the third quarter ended with both teams dead-locked at 29. A Springville field goal with one minute to go tied the score. Garth Hansen then made two key free throws to put P.G. up by two. Springville missed a shot and Atwood grabbed grab-bed the rebound and was quickly fouled. With nine seconds remaining, Atwood iced the game with two free throws. Garth Hansen led the Vikes with 16 points and several rebounds. P.G. travels to Spanish Fork Friday to take on the Dons at 7:30 p.m. |
