Show Vikes Crunch Spanish in Season's Finale Notch 6-3 Season Record by Guy Madsen Pleasant Grove shook off a first half sluggish spell to comeback and tromped the Spanish Fork Dons, 19-8 in the seasons last game. Showing strength and ball control, the Vikes drove down the field late in the first quarter and Dave Swenson pounded in from the four to score the first TD. The point after was missed and the score was 6-0. That's the way the half ended but PG came out and marched 70 yards for another score in the third quarter, Gary Moosman threw passes to Rick Denning and Blair Caldwell. A 20 yard scoring strike to Denning made it 12-0. 12-0. The attempted screen pass for the two points was stopped short. PG's defense kept the Dons outside the 40 yard line until late in the game. A fourth quarter score by Blair Caldwell, who had 124 yards rushing on the day, was followed by Mark At-woods At-woods p.a.t. kick to make it 19-0. With the reserves getting a chance to play, a Spanish receiver slipped past the secondary secon-dary for a 60 yard score late in the game. A two point play ended the Dons only bit of glory for the day as PG captured cap-tured its sixth win of the season, 19-8. P.G. won 19-8, tied for third in Region Six but will miss playoffs because they did not win early games over the other two teams. Payson lucked out. |
