BYU Home comma October 28 and 29 A huge panel of multi-patterned multi-patterned colored lights 35 feet high by 90 feet long will be the backdrop for the Homecoming Spectacular at Brigham Young University Friday and Saturday Oct. 28-29, 28-29, in the Marriott Center. Tickets are now on sale in the Marriott Center ticket office of-fice for the show which begins at 8 p.m. both nights. Using the Homecoming theme of the popular song "Days of Future Past," the Spectacular (formerly called Frolics) will feature more than 300 students representing represen-ting the best talent at BYU. Newell Dayley, assistant professor of music and director direc-tor of the Entertainment Division, will direct the IV2 hour variety show. Mark Bachan returns this year as master of ceremonies. Two specialty acts will be featured in the show - a Samoan fire-knife dance by Joe Ahuna and a gymnastics comedy routine by Eric and David Groeger, brothers from San Diego. The Homecoming queen and her attendants will also be introduced. The Ballroom Dance Team under the direction of Emerson Emer-son and LaGene Lyman, will present the Latin and modern routines that won first and third places, respectively, at the British Formation Championships, Cham-pionships, open to any team in the world and held at Blackpool last may. , . , . Using unusual choralography, the A Cap-pella Cap-pella Choir will sing "The Light" by Mormon composer Brent Pierce and "My Love Is Like a Red, Red Rose" by BYU alumnus Dr. Crawford Gates. Dr. Ralph Woodward will direct the choir. The popular Lamanite Generation, under the direction direc-tion of Janie Thompson, will perform two original songs, "Blossom as the Rose" and "Arise"- by case member Richard Luna. The beautiful "Eagle Dance" Dan-ce" will be performed by Dennis Zotigh as his father Ralph Zotigh Sings. The elder Mr. Zotigh, a noted Indian singer, will also sing a traditional chant. Synthesis, the popular jazz rock ensemble under the direction of Prof. Dayley, will change the pace of the show with an original arrangement of the theme from "Star Wars." "Force of Destingy" by Verdi will be played by the large Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Ralph Laycock. The International Folk Dancers, under director Mary Bee Jensen, will lend an international in-ternational flavor to the show by dancing the "Bulgarian Shope Suite," performed rarely in the United States. The dance suite was taught to the troupe last spring by Dennis Boxell who traveled to BYU to specially choreograph the suite. The popular Young Ambassadors, Am-bassadors, under the direction direc-tion of Val Lindsay, will perform per-form "Sir Duke and Band Stand Boogie," followed by the Sounds of Freedom singing "Love Train" and "Brotherhood." Randy Boothe directs the Sounds of Freedom. The entire cast of more than 300 will sing the finale entitled "First You Have a Dream," a popular song from the BYU Centennial musical "Brigham." |
