Show Summer Recreation Program Mw Over, Director Says 'Thanks to All' i At the conclusion of the Summer Recreation Programs, Bill Hoglund, recreation director, direc-tor, would like to express appreciation ap-preciation to all of those persons per-sons who helped make the programs pro-grams successful. There were a number of highlights this year as some programs were re-emphasized re-emphasized and some new programs pro-grams started. The tennis program under the direction of Paul Schoonov-er Schoonov-er had an outstanding year with the first tennis tournament tourna-ment held in Pleasant Grove in many years being an outstanding outstand-ing event to complete the tennis ten-nis season. A sewing class for adults and youth, was well attended with Kathy Peart and Evelyn Roberts Rob-erts leading the way. A real bright spot was the forming of a city softball league. The players, coaches, and sponsors are to be congratulated congrat-ulated on their sportsmanship and fine play. Much interest was evident as the season progressed, pro-gressed, capped off with a 16-team 16-team double elimination tournament. Pleasant Grove was well represented rep-resented in the various parades in Utah County by the baton marching unit and the Jr. High Marching group. These units were well drilled and presented present-ed themselves well at each event. ev-ent. The marching groups were under the direction of Mrs. Susan Su-san Facer and Mrs. Fran Chad-sey, Chad-sey, respectively. Other areas of activity, such as gymnastics, dancing, story and game time, golf lessons, art and crafts, ceramics and painting paint-ing had their usual success. A highlight of the season for the painting classes was the open house held recently by Mrs. Carol Harding at the opening of her new studio where many of the paintings completed in the recreation clap ' es were displayed. dis-played. However, a special thanks goes to those people who are so generously gave of their time to make the baseball season sea-son a success on the Little League, Pony and Colt levels. Byron Duke and his Little League assistants did an outstanding out-standing job in hosting the State UBBA Little League 32- j team tournament, coupled with j the completion of a new snack stand and storage shed at the high school complex. The Pony League had a banner ban-ner year under the direction of Darrell Ashton with the Yanks i winning the state title. They were coached by Bliss Fullmer. Many thanks go to Grant Fow-les, Fow-les, who is completing his 10th year coaching, and Jim Stone-man Stone-man and their assistants. The Colt League had one of its finest years under the direction di-rection of Eleroy West and Kent Wadley with coaches Charles Fowles, LaRoss Brady, Mike Hansen, doing a great job. The P.G. All-Stars played 18 innings down in Moab before bowing to a fine Springville team. Mr. Hoglund said he would like to personally thank the city employees, Grant Fowles, Blaine Gray, Dennis Carter and others who really make the program pro-gram possible from a standpoint stand-point of facilities, and coupled with a fine corps of ground crews and umpires," made this one of the finer years for recreational rec-reational activities. i |
