Show Elk Migration to Be Studied in Uinta Mountains Elk migration in the Uinta Mountains will be studied further fur-ther in a program launched by the Utah Division of Wildlife Wild-life Reources. The Division marked 36 elk in the Ashley National Forest with colored collars and numbered num-bered ear tags. The animals were trapped near the Colton Station in Uintah County. The elk were herded with a helicopter heli-copter between two 8-feet-high wing fences that funneled them to the trap. Future sighting and harvest information collected from these animals will be plotted on maps so a pattern of herd movement can be determined. This will aid game biologists to better manage valuable resource. re-source. This study will add to the information the Division already has concerning elk migration in the Uintas. |
