Show Variety Club Has Poet-Sculptor as Guest Speaker Thursday, Aug. 19, the guest speaker at the Variety Club meeting was Dennis Smith of Alpine. Mr. Smith is a widely published poet, who has also displayed art work and sculptor in many major American and European art galleries. He read selections from his book of poems "Star Counter" and displayed some of his sculpture work. It was an interesting in-teresting and instructive evening. even-ing. Ruby Warnick was hostess for the occasion. Refreshments were served in the garden of her home on small tables, covered cov-ered with table cloths of orange or-ange and yellow. The centerpieces center-pieces were small bouquets of yellow mums. Favors were miniature fruit baskets of candy can-dy and nuts. Mrs. Warnick had as her guests Fay Belliston and her daughters, Janet Anderson and Diane Brereton, who assisted Mrs. Warnick in serving. She received a lovely hostess gift and prizes for the evening went to Janet Anderson and Dorothy Walker. A gift was also presented pre-sented to Mr. Smith. Those present not already mentioned were Mary Harper, Myrle Armitstead, Ora Boren, Mary Swenson, Betty Oscar-son, Oscar-son, Evelyn Schoonover, Beth Warburton, Ida Halliday, Margaret Mar-garet Kelley and Juanita Lar-sen. |
