Show THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1970 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1970 Lindon Council Has Regular Session Last Wednesday Night The Lindon City Council met in regular session at the Lin-don City Office, Wednesday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. Ray Walker of the Utah Pow-er and Light Co. attended the meeting and the council dis-cussed the franchise extension with that company and the in-stallation of power for the No. 3 Well. Police Chief Kenneth Harris gave a report of police activ-ities for the month. $645 had been collected in fines and for-feitures. Calvin Tippets in-formed the council of the rec-ommendations made by the Planning Commission concern-ing trailers in the city. Mr. Tippets presented an ordinance and advised the council to re-view it and discuss its merits for possible adoption. Council-man Wendyl Jarvis moved that the City adopt this ordinance with the necessary changes and that it become effective im-mediately. All council mem-bers voted in favor. Walter Parker appeared at the council meeting to discuss garbage collection and fee problems. Mayor Stanley Walk-er asked Mr. Parker to ask Commissioner Stone for ade-quate stickers for identification purpose for Lindon City resi dents who needed to get into the dump with additional gar-bage. The proposed budget for fis-cal year 1970-7- 1 was reviewed by each councilman and dele-tions in demands were made in each department in an effort to stay within the anticipated revenues. Councilman Paul Fage re-ported having received an ad-ditional bid on the planned fin-ishing of the basement of the city building. A contract with the City-Coun- ty Health Department of Utah County and Lindon City was presented by Harold Erick-so- n for signature and approval. The yearly fee for the city will remain at $343.16 for fiscal year 1970-7- A motion that the city ap-propriate $322.81 for liquor con-trol enforcement for the ensu-ing year was made. This pass-b- y unanimous vote. The re-quest had been made by the Utah Liquor Control Commis-sion. It was stataed in a recent call to the State regarding a tax exemption number for the city that there are no provi-sions for cities to have such number. A sample copy of a purchase order which would be used for this purpose was shown, but Lindon City coun-cil members felt this would not be necessary at this time. Pace Manager Karl 8ankt Newt Editor Grove Explorers to Have 'Rag' Drive Monday, May 25 Grove Ward Explorers will conduct a rag drive on Monday, May 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Explorer leaders of the Grove Ward urge the people to have their rags ready for pickup that evening. "World War III" to Play at Last Chance Dance at PGHS Pleasant Grove High School will be holding their annual "Last Chance Dance" this Sat-urday night, May 23 starting at 8:30 p.m. Music will be furnished by "World War III" group. Ad-mission is 75 cents and casual dress is advised. Refreshments wlil be served and everyone is invited to at-tend. Don't forget, this is your last chance to dance at PGHS this year! Senior Class Plans Grads Dinner at Sundance Resort The senior class at PGHS has reserved. Sundance in Pro-v- o Canyon for their annual graduation dinner this year. Dinner will be served until 12 p.m. and there will be dancing to music by a special group from BYU. A few more reservations can be made by contacting Kent Allen, senior class president. Meeting Saturday to Discuss Tibbie Fork Transfer Station On May 23, 1970, at 10 a.m. Forest Ranger Stephen Rush-to- n will be at Tibbie Fork Park-ing lot to discuss plans for the new transfer station. This sta-tion will be used for horse un-loading and parking of trailers and cars and trucks. Harold Woolston Gets Award From Utah Art Education Assn. Harold Woolston received the Merit of Award given by the Utah Art Education Asso-ciation, on May 9, 1970 accord ing to word received from the Pleasant Grove High School, where is an instructor. Mr. Woolston did all his col-lege work at the BYU, and has spent his entire teaching ear-i- n the Alpine School District, teaching in all grades from 1st to 12th. He has worked on curriculum comittees on district and state levels, and this past winter he worked with the group on the art phase of out-do- educa-tion. Students from Mr. Woolston's classes have always scored well in the arts and crafts di-vision of the Sterling Scholar Awards, sponsored by the Des-er- et News. During his career, Mr. Wool-ston has been an outstanding artist, and some of his paint-ings and art work have receiv-ed honors and been shown in various cities throughout the state. He and his students have giv-en many demonstrations before the art teachers during UEA Week. Wests Visit with Son in Milwaukee Mr. and Mrs. Ross West have recently enjoyed two weeks vis-iting their son Royal and his wife and two sons. While in Milwaukee they also visited the museum, zoo and many other places of interest. Royal is moving to Lake Gen-eva, which is a very beautiful part of the state. The farm-lands of Illinois and Iowa were of especial interest to Mr. West, particularly the lack of weeds, and no need to irrigate. Howev-er, they said the mountains and Pleasant Grove were a most welcome place to return to. Kiwanis Club Has Ladies Night Dinner Monday Wives of the members of the Kiwanis Club of Pleasant Grove were honored at the Monday evening Ladies Night dinner at Bill and Iva's Cafe in Orem. Vice President Gerald Bellis-to- n conducted the affair. The pledge of allegiance was led by Arthur Watson and the prayer was given by Lyle Thacker. Singing was conduct-ed by Harvey Rawlinson ac-companied by Karla Haynie. Speaker of the evening was Merrill N. Warnick, who gave a very fine tribute to the wives of Kiwanians. He stressed the importance of doing the "little things" for people and stated that he appreciated the many small courtesies that people had shown him during his life and closed his remarks by giv-ing personal comments about each member of the Kiwanis Club.
