Show Vikings Compete In Track, Baseball Last Weekend Pleasant Grove High School's Viking athletes were busy last weekend in both track and baseball activities. At the BYU Invitational meet Viking stellar performer Ron Holman scored 5,300 points to take sixth place in the All-Around All-Around track and field competition. compe-tition. Ron missed by a few points of receiving one of the medals, which were awarded to the first five place winners in the All-Around. Dave Powell of Olympus High School won the 1970 All Around, with a total of 7,479 points. Powell broke the record of 7,144 setby Neil Roberts in 1962. More than 1400 athletes competed com-peted in the Class A and Class B track and field events under sunny skies last Saturday, but with an aiding or hampering wind blowing most of the time. Olympus High School won the Class A trophy with a total of 45 points and San Juan walked away with the Class B hardware hard-ware after scoring 38 points. Pleasant Grove scored one point in the Class A when Mike Hatch took fifth place in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet 6 inches. Baseball In a Region Four baseball game played last Friday afternoon after-noon in Orem, the Pleasant Grove Vikings lost a squeaker to the Orem Tigers by a score of 1-0. The game was a scoreless pitching duel for six innings between be-tween Hansen of the Vikings and Hatch of the Tigers. Or-em's Or-em's lone run came in the last half of the seventh. |
