They edged the Carbon High School Dinosaurs 6-0 in a game played play-ed in Pleasant Grove. Had it not been for a Carbon Car-bon fumble early in the first period, the contest might have resulted in a nothing to nothing tie. As it was the Vikes pounced on the Dino fumble on the 10 and then scored on a Blaine Huntsman to Rondo Biggs pass. The PTA attempt failed and that ended the scoring for the afternoon. Otherwise it was a see-saw, strong defense, weak offense contest. Spearheading the PI. Grove defense were tackles Larry Jorgnsen and Joel Adams. Ad-ams. The two broke through the losers line several times and threw the Dinos for losses. Other season-ending Region Four games were played on Friday and resulted pretty much as predicted. Orem routed Springville 28-6 to keep the record intact and meet Cyprus High School at Skyline next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Utah State quarterfinals. quarter-finals. Provo edged American Fork 27-25 and the Bulldogs will go on to meet Hillcrest at South High School Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals. Lehi skinned Spanish Fork 48-6 and Payson whitewashed celler-dwelling Uintah, 32-0. In all, it hasn't been such a bad season for Coach Ron Niel-son Niel-son and his Vikings. Most experts ex-perts rated them 5-4 last September Sep-tember and they ended up 4-5, which is fair to middlin' for a smaller school in such a rugged rug-ged region. Next year, the logical place to go is UP. |
