Show THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 1968 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, FLEASANT GKOVE, UTAH THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 1968 Rodeo Queen Contest Slated May 30 at P.G Rodeo Arena Young horsewomen in the Pleasant Grove area are urged to get themselves and their hor-ses ready for the 1968 Straw-berry Days Rodeo Queen Con-test. Vernon Ahman, rodeo committee chairman urged all local girls to think now about entering the contest. As has been traditionally scheduled, the 1968 contest will be held on May 30, (Memorial Day) at 8 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Rodeo Grounds. Past rodeo queens are not eligible to enter the contest, but girls who have been attendants may compete again, Mr. Ah-man explained. Contestants will be judged on riding ability, personality and beauty. They must be residents of Utah County or Riding Club District 4, and 16 years of age or older. Applications may be obtain-ed by contacting Mr. Ahman at 309 East 200 South, - Pleas-ant Grove, phone 785-369- 4. Girls chosen as Rodeo Queen and attendants must be prepar-ed to make Day radio and TV appearances. Al-so, they are to ride in the par-ade at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in the Rodeo grand entries each night, June 20, 21, 22 and in the stock parade at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 22. In addition to the exciting Queen Contest on Memorial Day, other events will include calf riding for kids up to 14 years (with written permission given by parents), jackpot calf roping and barrel racing for women. Novelty acts will complete the night's entertainment. Mr. Ahman heartily encour-ages all rodeo fans, especially prospective rodeo queen contes-tants, to plan ahead for the Memorial Day rodeo activities in Pleasant Grove. They are free to the public. This is 2nd championship. Smith's Timps Win AAU Meet In Salt Lake City Recently Smith's Timps, woman's bas-ketball team, sponsored by the Smith Drug Co. and Smith Bros. Grocery, won the AAU championship recently in the tournament held in Salt Lake City. The Timps finished as the runnerup last year, winning the championship the year be fore. They have competed in the tournament for the past five years, winning three tro-phies. Losing their first game, the Timp's had to battle back to the championship bracket in the double elimination tourney. With just 20 seconds remaining in an overtime period, the Timp's lost one of their stellar players, Gayle Nielson, due to a bad knee injury. Gayle was hospitalized for the remainder of the tournament, but the team all turned in outstanding per-formances to "win for Gayle." Team members include Gayle Nielson, Bonnie Walker, Carol Hardy, Vickie Peterson, Gwen Rawlings, Naomi Adams, Del-ma Olsen, Jody Harris, coach all from Pleasant Grove; Dixie Fisher and Delores Larsen of Provo; Anna Cook, American Fork and Brenda McNaughton, Lehi. Iris Nielson, another team member, did not make the trip due to a knee injury received prior to the tourney. Timp Stake to Start Monday Bus to Salt Lake Temple The Stake Bus to Salt Lake LDS Temple and Genealogy Library starts a new series of tickets Thursday (today) April 11 through June 27. There is time for two Temple sessions each day, or seven hours at the library. It is necessary for those not holding reserved seats, to make reservations as early as possi-ble. For Thursday bus informa-tion and tickets, call Mrs. Elroy Nielson. A new bus day will start on Monday, April 15. A series of 11 rides through June 24 is of-fered at a 25 per cent saving on advance sales of series tickets. This bus will make the same two temple sessions as the Thursday bus, but will not stop at Manila and Alpine cross-road On Monday, the first stop will be Pleasant Grove Third-Sixt- h Ward, then directly to the American Fork Stake House. Then the bus will go to the Lehi Fourth Ward and to the Lehi Stake House. For information and tickets for the Monday bus call Mrs. Maurice Howes. Thom-as Vinson Knight, month-ol- d son of Larry V. and Jewel Ol-pi- n Knight, died of pneumonia April 6, in a Palo Alto hospital. Born March 2, 1968. Survivors include sisters, brothers, Joseph V., Samuel V., Karen, Leslie Ann, Sandra, all Palo Alto; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Olpin, Pleas-ant Grove, Mrs. Hattie Knight, Provo. Graveside services were held Wednesday at noon in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Legislative Council Hears Sorenson At Recent Meeting Wilson W. Sorenson, presi-dent of Utah Technical College of Provo, was the speaker at the Utah County Women's Leg-islative Council meeting held recently. He spoke on the sub-ject, "nothing is as constant as change," in relation to occu-pations and jobs for the future. Mr. Sorenson was introduced by Mrs. James Harvey of PI Grove, education chairman. Mr. Sorenson also talked ut the need for money to build the new school planned for the site in Orem. He said that cooperation is needed from educations, parents, legislators and business concerns interest-ed in furthering technical edu-cation. Mrs. J. S. Brady Dirker gave the legislative report on "Youth and the Escape Drugs." A pan-el of five, moderated by Dr. C. Hardin Branch, of the U of U, discussed drugs in Utah. The panel included Dr. Lincoln D. Clark, U of U; Police Chief Dewey J. Fillis; Marvin Pugh, Salt Lake School district and Mrs. Dirker. ;A x ' a " ' ' ' i 1 ; - ' ' Frozen grape juice concentrate contributes a beautiful royal purple color and fine fruit flavor to this handsome gelatin refrigerator dessert. Climax Easter Dinner with Dramatic Dessert Royale A spectacular finale for Easter dinner is dessert royale a gelatin dessert of gorgeous purple hue and cloud light tex-ture that's as delicious as it is dramatic. The dessert u a breeze to prepare using frozen concen-trated grape juice, whipped cream, unflavored gelatin and angel food cake. (It's a won-derful way to use up cake if you've a made a large one and have some left over, but if not, most stores carry small loaf cakes that work very nicely.) This can be made in a large loaf pan or in a tube spring form pan if you have one. Either way a sprinkling of flaked coconut on top would be a pretty added frill and can-died almond "Easter eggs" in pastels could be served with the dessert. DESSERT ROYALE 1 can frozen concentrated grape juice, undiluted (6 oz.) plus water to make 1 cup 1 envelope unflavored gelatin Vt cup sugar teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup ( pint) whipping cream 2 tablespoons lemon juice 4 to 5 cups angel food cake, pulled into small pieces (approximately 12 oz. loaf cake) Thaw grape juice. Mix gela-tin, sugar and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Add grape juice-wate- r mixture and stir to blend. Stir over low heat until mixture is hot and gelatin is dissolved. Add lemon juice. Cool, then chill until gelatin is the consistency of unbeaten egg white. Whip the cream until it is stiff. (Be careful not to overwhip and turn it to but-ter.) Fold in gelatin lightly but thoroughly. Fold in cake pieces. Turn into a spring form cake pan or a large loaf pan. Makes 8 serv-ings.
