Show ions ions passed nen Y s meet s reported taber biber 1947 the bcd ot of women for peace als prance france they pass lowing resolutions con con berning the world conditions and the reso lutlo na were printed in the magazine president mary sargent of the pan gultch literary club brought them to the attention of this newspaper and they seem worthy of reprinting first the tha world assembly of women for peace a democratic association of 0 women of all ail classes without political racial or religious distinctions declares 1 the tha individual Is sacred consequently this assembly recommends to all groups throughout the world try to influence their governments to forbid the following in all forms torture exile deportation tio forced labor concentration camps inhuman treatment of any Pr prisoner IRoner or any person for rea sona of political racial or religious differences to insure this the assembly proposes the following means jot of control 1 the right of all victims so maltreated mal treated to appeal to an international ter national court of justice to he be established by the united nations Na tlona 2 institution of international controls over all legal penalties set up in each country and over the administration of 0 national penal laws 3 creation of an international controlling power which will compel recalcitrant governments to respect its directives and decisions ci second it la is the duty of every woman to work for peace no only in her own country but in the entire n world in order that women may fulfill their responsibilities und land assist in bringing about a world which will banish war to this end the world assembly of women recommends 1 that women take cognizance of the dignity of all ajl forms forma of work both inside as aa well as outside the home and aad of the need tor for improving the social as well as economic conditions of work 2 21 that women continue to struggle to obtain political equality before the law in order that they may secure a sizable representation on legislative bodies 3 that this assembly make known to all countries where women do not have the right to vote tote their fervent wish that this tight may be granted to them 4 that this assembly urge turge that the united nations insist upon this right from all the countries which signed the treaty ut at san francisco 5 that women inform themselves on all great political and economic questions and employ their power to vote dote as well as chelp influence on public opinion in order to strengthen all national legislation which upholds the work of the united nations toward peace 6 that women empi employ ay their influence as individuals and also as members of organizations or of political parties to secure in their own countries the appointment of national committees to cooperate with and to attain the objectives proposed by UNESCO PAO FAO and the international at foundation for needy children and other particular humanitarian committees committe gs of the united nations i 7 that women demand that their government in conformal conformity with the provisions ot of the charter of the united nations name a greater number of qualified women as delegates to the continued on page eight |
