Show safety sam says by lowell J farmer fanner I 1 do a lot of talking about individualism because next to ladles it Is what I 1 admies most it t is the thing thine most important to our oui country I 1 would liate hate to think what bould happen it if we were nil 1111 sat satsey sed with will tile the same baltic kind of coffee out of tho the same kind of cup every morning and the same rou loutine tine every day routine people dont mako make news nor do they males make history but there thera are aie an awful lot of us in the world some scale ot of us even get so routina rou tint we forget to vote ote and get eing a little bit bad whenever people get that sleepy they are in n foi trouble I 1 can rem niber several years ago when the people of france fiance were to much engaged in their affairs of living to think much about voting they gave their power of government to some big fat sleepy gentlemen who were lulled by this rich living into thinking running a govera go eminent was v as simple business some n us suffered tile the fate ot of france fiance others came very near to it some too c lose close for foi comfort you know tills this from your own everyday business of living whenever things get to going smoothly something happens and in fit nine times out of ten it Is unexpected because you thought everything was 0 K there Is something gom ething about smooth living and whatever it is it puts you to sleep you cant can t run a government and go to leap sleep government Is not simple business it is tough and exacting and as far as most of us are concerned it is run by the vote it would do us all a lot of good to get good and mad every time there Is an election whether its to vote ote for foi president Pies ident or putting up tip a fence somewhere arguments are aie healthy and some of our best government policies were shaped in a barber shop or in the back looms of stores by lion iron stove politicians they are aie the leaders and formulate the tickets and policies pellet es we have the final say and c can 11 give them the green light or the brushoff bru by getting out and voting just dont dou t get so mad you cant can t see the tha ballot the salt lk lake tribune hat bab items of tragic accidents to children in the intermountain intel mountain area almost every day dai but these items atema in thOn themselves nelves are ais riot not enough tu to prevent accidents happening if utah or any other intermountain intel mountain state has safety organizations they arent doing their job A safety program has to be a driving force all day and every day and everybody has to take part to make it succeed aside from an occasional press pi ess notice or radio brier brief ot of some safety group meeting cautioning people to be careful and an infrequent safety week ot of some kind or other there much any of oc the safety organizations can justify theli their ex ev istance so far as I 1 know the ille utah highway group Is the only safety organization doing a good job an effective effect he job A halfhearted half hearted safety program Is w worse orse ill than an none at all doddering safety groups had better look themselves over oer the practice of safety does not comprise the quotation of cold statistics and lukewarm warnings to be careful it must be a warm living thing and when safety groups realize this we will is have hae safety toi for our children child i en |
