Show citizen of boulder asks a Correct correction last friday morning we received the following letter from mrs airs VV A wilson of boulder utah which corrects the statement we made in our paper of september 8 in reference to the paying of taxes by the citizens of boulder we are grat gratful grateful ful to mrs wilson for her correction and are sorry it did not get here for last weeks issue the editor being a citizen of boulder and also a taxpayer I 1 desire to correct a statement in the september 8 issue of the plute county news the last paragraph of the article read up to a short time ago not even taxes have been levied in this remote area although boulder is a remote area uncle sam forgotten her citizens all these forty years since its first homesteaders came and settled here no indeed for many years the citizens of doulder boulder have paid n more lore taxes per capita than any town in garfield county this NO TAX idea arose with the realization of the federal land office that boulder townsite had not been proved upon and of course land not proved upon is not taxed but the writer of that first article did not tell us that there was only one family who lived permanently the year I 1 au round d on this townsite there are only nine buildings on this townsite one of these is the baker ranger station one the school house and one the relief society house so besides this one permanent home there are five small buildings built of either logs or rough lumber which are used by families in winter who own taxpaying tax paying ranches that are too far away for their children to ride to school the townsite was designated by president woodrow wilson about the year 1917 and it was waa on the forest preserve aej ach eliat time in in 1922 when the reserve line was moved farther north there seemed seamed to be no one who could find out how bow to get title to these lots causing many families to give up improving their lots and make bettor homes on their ranches purchasing automobiles automobile and traveling by auto to the school house there are two school buses run each one carries the children from upper boulder the farthest ranch being about five miles north the other brings children from lower boulder the locc lowest st ranch being about four miles south twelve automobiles are arc owned in boulder tho people are god fearing indu industrious sArious taxpaying tax paying citizens |
