Show LARGE consumption OF DAIRY PRODUCTS IS NOTED IN REPORT per capita on farms much greater than in cities prepared by the united states department part ment of agriculture the increasing importance of dairying in the united states as a source of the nations food supply Is strikingly brought out in a study just completed by T R pirtle of the dairy and poultry products marketing division of the united states department 0 of agriculture the per capita consumption of milk and cream has increased about 12 per cent ce nt during the past ten years and per capita consumption of butter has increased more than 0 per cent mr pirtle says ppe special cial efforts have bave been made by the he department during the past two years to obtain data on the consumption of dairy and poultry products on farms based upon reports from 30 township towns bip crop reporters in all parts of the country it Is shown that the he ter per capita consumption of milk and cream on farms Is much larger than in cities the average per capita consumption en farms with cows last year was approximately 81 gallons whereas the average for the entire country was only 53 gallons average consumption of milk and cream on farms ten years ago was only 72 gul io lons farm consumption of butter has baa also Inerd increased ased greatly being now more than double the average for the united states per capita consumption of butter on farms farm last year Is placed at 38 pounds as compared with an average of 17 pounds for the country as a whole this farm consumption shows an increase of over two pounds per capita since 1918 1913 the average person on farms also eats about one case of eggs a yar war and about one fowl per month mr pirtle says |
