Show spotlighting UTAH something new is added utah has good reason to be proud of 0 its university state college and several junior colleges now it has a state supported vocational school the central utah vocational school at provo this institution has been in operation several years mainly supported through federal funds which now have been withdrawn its accomplishments in war production training have been little short of 0 startling having successfully trained persons for vital war jobs under state sponsorship although its funds are very limited there is hope for continued growth in scope and usefulness this year it is offering nine day trade classes in 01 auto mechanics aircraft mechanics machine shop electricity business and office machines carpentry or and foundry air conditioning and re welding and forging and power sewing these courses run from three to six hours daily it also presents 13 evening courses of 4 to 8 hours per week also offered are technical and related subjects to supplement training on the job such as mathematics science drawing in du relations american history and government practical english and business practice the wisdom of the last legislature in bringing this new member into the school family will be more than vindicated in the years ahead as utah becomes more highly industrialized A voice from industry intermountain commerce and industry business magazine in its october issue contains an excellent article on tourist business plans as they apply to utah it is highly significant ant when a voice of industry industry y recognizes in the tourist trade the possibility of a vast new source of income the entire article deserves perusal but we simply must take the space for a short quotation inadequate highways an almost complete absence of sanitary accommodations dat ions insufficient and inefficient housing and feeding facilities are not attributes to invite out of state visitors to return again and again or to urge their neighbors and friends to make the trip editors are elert eiert editor A G merkley of the bea ver press writes a splendid editorial in his issue of september 21 entitled are we kp i pace we quote just a couple of sentences but our preparation to welcome the traveling public goes further than this physical appearance As we see it our greatest potential resource is the tourist trade we muff must be prepared to entertain and accommodate the people who will provide a large portion 0 of come the progress in any line of endeavor is always preceded by sincere soul searching far too often it is more comfortable to sit back although we know better and hope against reagon reason that the other fellow will do something about the problem beaver could without great difficulty justify all the hopes and dreams dream s that one feels lie beneath this editorial those who have been up and down the highway know that the city is ideally located to become a favored stopping place if some specific reason for stopping can be bd developed how about specializing cial izing in the best cooked and served lunches in utah and advertising them a couple of miles on either side of town more power to you editor merkley |
