Show exchange club holds meeting at five mile the annual meeting of the paro wan exchange club was held in connection with a mutton supper at the five mile recreation camp on wednesday evening with almost seventy members and partners and with representative W K granger as guest and speaker of the evening the supper was served cafeteria style by the banquet committee after which all gathered at the camp fire circle to hear a tine fine talk by rep granger also head the annual report of the club and elect offic officers erb for the coming year in the voting for president and vice president ivan decker and clair rowley were tied and a flip of a coin made mr decker president and mr rowley vice president kent mitchell was voted in as secretary of the club by acclamation mr grangers brangers Gr angers talk was centered on the subject of winning the peace following the war and problems which are imminent he stated that congress is and has been on the job considering these very weighty problems and realized what a tremendous job it is facing he stated that with the advent of the atomic bomb and dussias Rus sias entry into the war with japan the end af f hostilities had come several months sooner than even anyone had dared to hope and with its sud den end came the gigantic job of disbanding one of the worlds largest armies and turning from a war time to a peacetime peace time economy ile he warned that the next several months will be trying times for all of us the task of moving our millions of men home from their foreign stations t I 1 ns and returning a great proportion of these men to civilion life once again Is an enormous job he said and even with the point F saw benr ol 01 discharges discharges from the army th there ere will be much disappointment for many of us he stated that we as citizens must be patient and bear with those at the head and of he said the disposal of our enormous stocks of war materials clothing and machinery is another big job an effort will be made to do this in a way that these things will get into the hands of the people needing them most through channels that will not injure private business ay more than it has to and still return to the government as muc much h as possible he stated that rationing 7 last much longer but that price controls would have to stay until the factories of our nation is producing enough for all and added that no matter how bad we felt about price controls it would be much worse if they were lifted the information given by mr granger was very timely and well received by all present |
