Show SPORTSMEN OFFER BILLS TO UTAH legislature although there seems to be an abundance bun dance of bills carrying the blessings of the state sportsmen now on the docket in the state house and senate the proposed legislation actually breaks down into about three major issues the big game board of control both the utah wildlife federation and the newer utah sportsmens Sports mens association have bills up tor consider aaion the wildlife federation asks a a revision of the big game board of control to include the fish and game d director a land owners to be selected from the utah horse and cattle growers association and the utah Wool growers alsoc assoc association I 1 aaion a sportsman to be named by the U uj j tah wildlife federation the U S forest service and taylor grazing service b that the big game board make scientific studies of the ranges ih the state and decide fairly the carrying capacity of each range c that open hearings be conducted in e each ach district in the state and that they be announced so that all sportsmen landowners and stockmen stoc kmen may have a chance to speak his mind in his own district d that the big game board with the exception of ithe federal agency reprise representative nta tive be given expenses and a per them diem wage for riding the ranges and making personal investigations the sportsmens Sports mens meWs association also has a big game board bills which would abolish the big game board the present fish and game commission and the state game refuge committee it would replace the present five man commission with a nine man commission chosen by the hunting and fishing license holders of the state both sportsmens sports mens groups intend to seek a modification of the no sunday opening law for pheasants which was enacted by the 1943 legislature both would give the director the power to open any seasons on any day he saw fit the utah wildlife federation asks the installation of the merit system for fish and game department em while the sportsmens Sports meWs mens association asks civil service for de oart art mental employees the sportsmens Sports mens association asks legislation to make fish and game violations a felony instead of a misdemeanor the wildlife federation asks legis leggis lation banning the use of trash fish as bait in waters waiters closed by the state bate it would not apply to strawberry reservoir and pots where the chubs already have a strong hold but it would ban these trash fish from good waters waiters As trash fish were removed from the strawberry and other hot spots they too would be closed to such baits the wildlife federation also asks that service men on furlough and hospitalized servicemen still in uniform the privilege of fishing in the state without a license As matters now stand it appears several of these measures have a good chance of meriting serious consideration tor for this session of the legislature is very much fish and game minded |
