Show school problems aired by principals at the monthly meeting of the southern utah principals association held wednesday in cedar city many problems which confront the schools of this region were discussed with all principals and superintendents of schools from delta to kanab in attendance a very interesting te and instructive meeting was held A new chairman was named for the coming year superintendent in swallow of kane to succeed principal of the hurricane high schools in that position some of the matters discussed and acted upon were as follows the application of the topaz high school to join the utah high school athletic association on a non lea ue basis was discussed under association rules schools who are members have been forbidden to cap con list with schools butof out of it this rufe has aas been modified somewhat but it if was left up to the schools in millard county which will be affected mostly to decide whether they want to compete with the school from the jap relocation center the topaz high school is a large larae one having around 1000 students the principals Princ opals association has been seen invited and have accepted an invitation to hold its december session there at which time more will be learned about the school the association had recommended to the state board of athletic control that the playoff between the champion six man football teams of this and the sevier region be held at st george next friday and the recommendation has been accepted the problem of getting officials t to 0 work in athletic contests in this region was considered and it was recommended that neutral officials be used in all games with an arbitrating board set up to settle disputes that might arise as they have in the past some unpleasantness has been encountered in the past caused by favoritism being shown by home referees especially ia in basketball contest this was left up to the athletic board of control for study and some 0 other her matters such as the problem T in repard to crop harvest in various localities an and d students needed in the turkey processing plant at the present time was vas considered and it was decided that each school could handle its own lems along this line individually |
