Show DONT BLAME BEAMS THE SELECTIVE SERVICE BOARDS at this tune time th there e r e is a loud cry from many people 1 for calling men I 1 into the armed forces who have wives we and children child even 7 if they were obtained Ob tinned after ft or the attack on pearl harbor and much of this criticism will be against the local selective select w e service board who are am responsible h I 1 for ea calling ito ME men to fill the quo quotas le assign assigned ed to the coun ty by the state aate director of selective service seme e but the men on the he local 11 board can do little other then than they are a dong doing I 1 they are giving g liberally of their the time to this thankless task and have been and will be criticized for them their decisions dec sums plenty of times the board is charged with getting ready and sending in men each month to fill a definite quota assigned to the county by the state director these men must come came from a list of men who have registered and under orders of the gl government abent and who are am classified by the III local board into classes under the direction of the manpower continua commission 0 when men in one class are am wed used up the next class cl w is made eligible for induction and d are called by the board and the the board has called them in as near me as possible in the order of the numbers they received following their registration at th this tune practically all 11 single eargie men are either in the armed amed fare forces or have been declared physically or mentally unfit for such service there them are a few yet who w ho have been deferred because e of then their occupy accia P a tion but they are a few and some of them will be called in this fall and the men who turn eighteen and become eligible C for induction each month are ane far too few to come came any where near filling the quotas ask sit ed for far therefore the board has been ordered to io reach into a new group of men those who were married since pearl harbor and those who how have children child ren burn born since sept 15 1942 and who wh are am between the ages of IS 18 and 38 years hue here the job becomes really hard when it comes to separating husbands ft from wives wise and children but the edict says it must be done dom and the board sa is doing it the only y way possible that is going right d down own the list and calling the men in order of their numbers but rt it has got get to where the min men who are left are all in occupations that are important na and all have the right to appeal for deferment when classified ed and made subject to call and the most important part of 0 it is th that at the local board has nothing to as say y a bout about these appeals they are hand handled led by the state appeal boards and while these appeals are being acted on an other men have to be call ed to till fill the quotas those who ap peat peal only asks a someone else to take then their place in the armed aimed fumes forces because they feel that their position at home is a so important chist that they should be left and A the appeal A ap pp d boards have to fail scale decide whether bother they are am that important to the home front the local board how have say any say m the matter in the there is as much criticism against calling fathers and hus husbands bands into th the c armed aimed forces a sid and much will be so said and ad probably something done about it when congress co convenes cs this month but other countries engaged in this war have called fai fathers theris in and allow very little to take care cam of their families in comparison with what this country does up to the present tune time we have 9 rel million lic men under arms ame 2 million of which are in the navy and have to go into the offensive against an enemy across two oceans who ho are entrenched on thew their home grounds and have them their backs to the wall our forces must therefore be stronger in m all ways if A we we are to win this war in m the next year or so and not let it settle down to a battle between two tr armies amies of equal strength two of the C axis nations can probably field as large armies if not larger than a e can at a t the present time and one of them has almost unlimited rescar ces at its C command to back up their men probably those at the head of our forces know a little more about what we need to win this war than we do at home |
