Show WAR declaration CHARGES CHANGES SELECTIVE SELECTIVE SERVICE PLANS with the formal declaration of war on the part of the united states against the axi ax il powers selective service plans have rapidly changed and a new law has 4 presented for congressional haprov approve al to change selective service from a peace time to a war time basis in view of the present situation it has become ri necessary la id ask local boards to carefully reclassify all registrants who have previously been granted deferments in order to bring a larger number of registrants into classi class I 1 to be available to fill future calls cills formen for men inthe in the armed forces all previously granted student deferments will terminate with the end of the present fol fall quarter or term of college students as such will receive no further consideration for deferment except those in training for certain necessary occupations such as engineering medicine and chemistry all men who have heretofore been deferred because of physical conditi condition I 1 6 will be rechecked especially when only ohly borderline impair ments exist whereas in the past the registrant has been given the benefit of the doubt all such cases must now be resolved in favor of f the government I 1 major H A rich acting state director of selective service for utah states that local selective service boards and registrants generally realize that these steps ar necessary at this time and that full cooperation will be given in reclassifying all registrants to produce a pool of sufficient classi class I 1 men to enable the state of utah to lo continue to fill every quota as called for by the armed forces |
