Show OUT OF SEASON BROODING a PROMISES MORE MEAT an abend abundance ance of feed wheat and a call for more chickens that thai should be an almost perfect setup set up for the poultry men ol of iron county who have the facilities to brood fall chicks of the meat breeds said J M palmer of the USDA war board during the week A call has gone out from secretary of agriculture for poultry men inen to produce million additional chickens of the meat breeds during the fall and w winter inter if these chickens are fed to about 3 pounds each it will give the nation an additional million pounds of poultry meat to help relieve the shortages of red meat which are showing up mr palmer advised against the expense of new buildings or equipment in the face of war shor ta agles of materials but pointed out that if buildings and equipment which are normally used to brood chickens in the spring for laying flocks are made to do double duty the additional meat can be supplied without too great expense good prices for chickens should make such out of season brooding profitable as well as giving the an opportunity to make an additional contribution to the war effort he said A five point plan for the efficient ole operation ration of the emergency program was suggested the five points include increased hatchery outputs at this season in line with demand for chicks adoption of a management program to meet cold weather production problems feeding to utilize the abundant supplies of feed wheat sanitation and the utilization of existing equipment and facilities cili ties |
