Show RAILROAD WORKERS HELD ON BURGLARY CHARGE aubrey C whidden carl F matson and vincent fafek all of california are lodged in the county jail here awaiting trial I 1 before the district court on a robbery I 1 charge the trio members of the union pacific section ere crew I 1 working on the railroad near mo clena are charged with breaking m n to the home of guy hugenor of 0 modena hugenor who had been spendina spen dins some time at his ranch in hamlin valley returned to his home about one mile from modena and discovered ered the house had been broken in to and several articles stolen he immediately notified the sheriffs office oi fica and an investigation wis was started the officers found the prowlers had broken open several trunks scattering clothing dishes and furniture around the house after entering it by cutting the screen from the back door tracks of two men were found leading from the house to the railroad tracks a short distance away the foreman and COOK of the I 1 crew of section workers told officers that on friday august ath three men from the crew had been up to the ranch house it was noted that they were wearing a new mackinaw and a large stetson hat which they sold at the camp the next morning they also drew th their air time slips that evening and left for ogden where they were to present their time slips to the paymaster ori on monday and receive their money ogden police officers were not notified and the three were picked up and held until sheriff wm dalton and deputy S C lamb were notified the officers drove to ogden on wednesday of last week and returned the prisoners to the iron county jail I 1 I 1 at first the youths denied the charges but later confessed and were arraigned before justice 01 the peace alex H rollo of cedar city on august to answer to the charge matson and fafek confessed to the crime and both testified that whidden who is lame started out with them but returned to the camp and had retired when they returned whidden was released while matson and fafek were placed under bonds each and as neither were able to supply the bonds they were placed in the custody of the iron county officers and incarcerated in the jail here awaiting a district court trial most of the stolen property was recovered |
