Show record crowds attend conference meetings with record throngs of people in attendance at all meetings one of the best stake conferences over ever to be held in the parowan carowan stake took place here last saturday night and i sunday all meetings were better attended than any in past history of conferences in etnis community one of the reasons for this was probably I 1 athe the dedication of the parowan carowan west I 1 ward chapel and recreation hall on sunday morning by bishop legrand richards I 1 the conference commenced with a ward and stake officers meeting and boy scout jamboree in the west ward at 6 p rn saturday this was followed by a priesthood meeting at with men and boys in attendance the largest gathering of this kind remembered in paro wan stake at 8 3 the meeting divided the scouts and their leaders going to the recreation hall to hear the national scout broadcast and the rest heard talks by elders eldro rigby and parley E anderson followed by a showing of church welfare projects with john ed dailey describing them bishop richards addressed both of these meetings another welfare meeting was held at sunday morning the chapel dedication exercises commenced at 10 a m with seven hundred and thirty five people in attendance part of which were seat ed in the recreation hall and heard the program through a loud speaker speakers were W A jones and oscar hulet of the stake presidency wm R palmer former president who g gave ave a history of the division of the parowan carowan wards 0 M lyman chairman of the ward building committee H L adams first bishop of the ward present bishop T W bayles and bishop richards who pronounced the dedicatory and then took up the remainder of the time musical numbers were the an rhems let the mountains shout for joy and rouse 0 ye mortals by the choir a mixed chorus consist ing of ormon weight wm and mary dalton della delia marsden and rid zone P and the closing song oh ye mountains high by the choir and congregation all under the direction of mr weight the opening prayer was offered by david matheson and the closing one ay wilford day the afternoon meeting held in the east ward chapel was conducted by W A jones and attended by persons with many turned away for lack of room speakers a this meeting were george stevena et iring home missionary bayles and james tweedie representing 0 the adult priest nood lood J reuben dark clark 3rd ard and vern ooley representing the stake seminaries in stake president david L sargent argent and bishop richards musical numbers estr wen two livo anthems by the choir hear oh ye heavens written by alfred M durham and the prayer song itha donald cartwright ray D garner and rula D orton singing the solos a song let the lower lights be burning oy the east ward priesthood chorus abid rid the closing song by choir and congregation for the strength of the hills prayers were offered by patriarchs samuel F leigh and thomas W jones |
