meeting on monday of this week ervin stevens and E F armstrong of midvalley Mid valley met with the tha board and asked that road improve ments in the form of grading and re graveling of the enoch midvalley road broad be made they stated that the gravel capping on the road had completely worn out making it almost impassable at this time of the year chairman bulloch advised them that theroan the road is a secondary state highway and that the county cant spend funds for its improvement stating further that the board would use its influence with the state road commission in getting the improvements made warren and woodruff pendleton and clifford stubbs representing farmers that use the Par parowan oNvan west field lane and the road from U S 91 at Parag paragonah Para gonah onali to the parowan carowan gap asked the commission to gravel these roads explaining that during muddy weather the roads are impassable the men explained that both roads aie in constant use by farmers and livestock men but at this time of year other ways had to be used in getting to and from their farms with produce as the muddy condition of the roads would not permit hauling loads over them the commission advised them that the county have funds to do this work at the present time but told them that if the farmers using the roads would haul the gravel the county would load it and spread it it willard y jones and hunter gibson of enoch met with the commission and asked that a road connecting enoch with the cedar minersville road be made and their request was taken under advisement county clerk rowley was instructed ted to write the state road C emission sion and ask that they confer with mr allen alien state engineer of nevada and urge birge that necessary steps be taken to establish a connecting point between U S 91 in n utah and U S 93 in nevada via cedar city modena and panaca I 1 nevada they listed this as the major ajor project concerning iron county pointing out the advantages in such 12 a road in connection with national defense it was further pointed out that this would be the only way for through traffic to get from or into california if bridges were blown out between cedar city and the altah arizona anzona line the commission also urged that surveys be made in the very near on the little creek canyon and parowan carowan main canyon roads and that bunds lunds be made available I 1 lor their continuance they asked for funds on the same basis as last byear year namely that the state furnish the r oney money and the county the c quip equipment ment for use on the projects mr ray gillis district road engineer met with the commission to discuss road problems that both the state and the county were interested in he told the commission that surveys would be made on the little creek and parowan carowan canyon roads as soon as equipment is available in regards to graveling the E midvalley road mr gillis reported that it was not at all probable that funds sufficient to do a complete job but that some improvements prove ments could be made to relieve the situation for the present mayor H H lunt and arthur jones representing cedar city met with the board in regards to the city and county building that has been under construction in cedar city for some time past as a project the delegation explained that the sponsors share of the original estimate on the cost of the building had been exceeded and that the new estimate places the sponsors share of the project as ai of each for iron county and cedar city instead tf of each as the original estimate called tor for incidentally when the building was first purposed por posed iron county told cedar city that it would and no more toward its erection the latest estimate as su after careful consideration the hoard board instructed the clerk to advise cedr city that hat funds veran t available under the budget appropriation for 1911 1941 19 11 but if cedar city wanted to borrow money to finish the project the county would pay them its share in january of 1942 after the budget is drawn up for that year they were also advised that would he be the maxi maximum mun amount they would spend on the building under the breser sate sale laws aws counties can make appropriations necessary for the calendar bolend ar year and if income sufficient to take care of the appropriations they may borrow on tax anticipation notes until the tax levies for the next nent year are arc drawn up tin at which time additional addition ol taxes must be levied to meet the nalis
