Show COUNTY FARMERS RECEIVE 1940 A A A PAYMENTS PAYMENT 3 the first agricultural conservation payments under the 1940 program were received in iron county this week according to J M palmor palmer chairman of the county AAA committee commit tee who reports that had been received to be distributed to 7 farmers of iron county these payments are for carrying out soil building practices under the 1940 program and for a adjusting di ustin acreage of special chops under the 1940 program 24 practices to build fertility and the soil prevent erosion and increase the efficiency fici ency of the farm to produce were offered the farmers of iron county the adjustment of acrea acreage of special crops to balance product production to consumption in a part of 3 national program to prevent wasti waste and at the same time insure an adequate supply of food and fiber the production 0 oz more wheat for instance than the nation can use and more than can reasonably be stored uses up valuable fertility to grow a crop that needed depresses the price oi of the commodity and puts the farmers in a state of insecurity while growing enough wheat for a normal consumption safe carryover carry over and whatever export market there may bo be in these times stabilizes the price of wheat for both the producer and consumer and insures tho the nation of food for the coming year mr palmer pointed out while these conservation payments in many instances pay only a part of the cost of the soil build ing practice carried out by the farmer they do encourage better farming practices and make agriculture more stable the communities depending on agriculture benefit directly and indirectly from this activity he said 0 |
