Show city purchases fir fire fighting equipment officers of parowan carowan city took the first and most important stop step in providing some fire protection for the community last monday when they purchased a fire truck equipped with water tank pump chemical extinguishers and a small amount of light hose the outfit w was a s purchased f from r 0 rn lorenzo smith salt lake city representative of the american lafrance co who brought it down from there last sunday f for 0 r demonstration purposes mr smith demonstrated the machine thoroughly before the mayor ci city ty council and other city 0 officials f and a large group of townspeople monday afternoon on main street and later in the day a special meeting of the council was held at which the decision to purchase was made the purchase price is reported to be of which amount was paid down and the balance is to be paid in 1940 although as yet no contract has been drawn up and i signed by the city the truck which was recently turned in by the city of bountiful on a larger one is a reo and has a reconditioned motor good tires and body it carries two chemical extinguishers axes wrecking bars and other minor pieces of equipment it also has two fire hose compartments capable of carrying more than enough for our needs the water tank of gallon capacity carried with the truck at all times is connected with the water pump and is sprayed out through the small hose mentioned at the beginning of the story 90 percent of the fires which have occurred here in the past number of years could have been put out cut by the tank of water and the small hose without ever connecting onto a fire plug the pressure pump which is run by the truck motor has sufficient pressure to draw water from a ditch pond or other supply and shoot it farther than the regular pressure in the cites water system I 1 it is very likely that the I 1 pump wont be used a great deal I 1 as it known what the cites 1 policy will be when it comes to I 1 fighting fires outside the city limits most of the hose the city has at the present time is old and leaks badly and will have to be replaced mayor hatch informs us that plans are arc to buy about feet of new hose in the near future a portion of which will be ordered probably n next c x t month some S omo new fire plugs are arc als also needed in some parts of the city to supplement those already in the system and these will be bought and installed as soon as finances will permit |
