Show times editor dies of accident injuries it was with deep regret that this community learned of the passing of william warner mitchell 50 who died at tile the iron county hospital tuesday about 1000 a in after being thrown from his horse a few hours earlier the accident must have occurred shortly before a m as mrs dark clark orton discovered him unconscious in the street in front of the claude K burton property on first east ani and first south streets about a 1 in his son robert was called who with mr burton rushed him to a local doctors office and from there he was taken to the county hospital by his wife georgia 11 mitchell his son and a brother karl but lie he never rallied in spite of all the efforts of his brother in law lav dr J W bergstrom Bergst romand and associates socia tes his acquaintance was statewide and his friends the same to whom lie he was always honest friendly and even tempered always ready to do a good deed lor for any one asking him a loving husband and kind father he will be greatly missed by his family and everyone in this community funeral services are arc being hold held for him this friday afternoon in the east ward chapel with bishop NV L adams presiding one of iron countes Coun tys most active civic and democratic party workers he was also a lover of fine horses and has had several fine saddle horses during the past few years just before 6 tuesday morning he left his home for his morning ride on a 2 year old horse which lie he had broken this spring he was found lying in the tet is av short time later inter by mrs orton with aith no one as eyewitness A L to say just what happened mr mitchell was born in paro wan on november 27 1889 a son of 0 william C and loretta orton mitchell he attended the van public schools branch agricultural college in cedar city and ana the L D S business college iii ii i salt lake city A farmer and livestock man in his early years he interested himself in governmental affairs at an early age and was elected county clerk of iron county in 1912 serving for three terms in that capacity he taught corn commercial mercial law at parowan carowan high school for a short time and in 1921 secured the par owan times one of the coun county tYr two weekly newspapers he was still connected with the paper in an editorial capacity when he died A past member of the parowan carowan city council mr mitchell had held numerous civic and church offices during his lifetime being particularly active in county red cross work and other social service activities tivi ties he was elected vice president of the utah state press assoria association I 1 t lon in 1935 and would have automatically assumed the presidency of that organization in 1936 but declined the honor when he was appointed postmaster in april 1936 his commission for another indefinite term as postmaster was due to arrive tuesday his nomination having been approved by the U S senate last week he had been a member of the iron county democratic central committee for many years prior to i IB V b having served as vice chair war for a numbs ui of terms mr mitchell was president of 0 the parowan carowan exchange club it in 1938 and was active in affairs of the southern utah civic clubs iu 0 ile he was a past president of the parowan carowan chamber of commerce and lions club and had served as president of the elders quorum and has been an officer in the sunday school in his ward of the L D S church he married georgia brown of greensburg greensbury Greens burg kan at parowan carowan on oil june 1 1916 he is survived by his widow his father a son and three daughters robert kobert 31 louise mary jane and katherine mitchell ell all of Pr browan parowan Pa rowan owan and nine brothers and sisters karl 0 mitchell of paro war wan albert 0 mitcel milc e 1 of ogden 3 harold mitchell of safford Arf arizona tona mrs T A gardner ol of cedar city mr grant gr nt H tolton of beaver miss kathleen mitchell and mrs J russell lindsley of salt lake lak e city mrs hal taggart of evanston Evan slon wyo and mrs parley R neeley of williston N D |
