| Show E U R OP O 0 P E sent Us of her finest they came saw are content by george peck the fanatical misguided zealots zealous who are trying to transplant one or other of the totalitarian systems to america have counted some chickens before they were hatched one of these chicks was their assumption that the sons and daughters of men and women who migrated to this country from europe would welcome their ideologies one has but to give this a bit of thought to td realize why it is with the exception of a few isolated instances these american citizens of foreign forebears are turning de deif if ears and giving the cold shoulder to those these would be destroyers of the american system what is now the united states was first of all settled by people who had come from the old country to escape certain restrictions of their religious and social liberties and who set up on this continent a new social order of life after the revolutionary war word began to trickle back to europe that here in america something new and beautiful had been launched and millions of europeans weary of the oppression and lack of opportunity under which they were ere living cast longing eyes at america and determined that some day they would pull up stakes and migrate to this land of opportunity tui niev during the century millions of them did come america welcomed them and put them to work here they began to enjoy tho the things they had fr dreamed about here they found no caste system here they discovered that a man by his skill and application could carve his own niche in society but of the great many million who looked with e envious avious i eyes cross the sea and planned eventually to come here only a comparatively few millions actually came for it takes a great deal of courage to tear oneself up by the roots and trek to a foreign land and so those emigrants who actually came were those who not only wanted freedom and opportunity unity but WHO HAD THE COURAGE TO TAKE THE PLUNGE they had the real pioneering spirit that wa was so necessary to assist i in n developing america they were the strong the courageous the int intelligent of the countries from which they came not the weaklings wea klings they contributed largely in building what is now america america contributed largely to them the rosy reports they had heard about this glorious land they found to be no exaggeration they came they saw they worked they participated in the good things and were satisfied that is why the zis have failed to arouse even a spark of interest among most of our citizens of foreign ancestry these people are the descendants of the strong heroic and intelligent of europe there is something to her edity especially when it takes root in an ideal environment the courage which inspired their forebears to come here is now reborn arid and relives in them they are not in the market for anything but good sound americanism |
